When Quinn saw his name flash on her screen, her smile instantly vanished, and a heavy frown of annoyance took its place.
She didn't answer. She simply swiped to reject the call.
Miles's face turned completely thunderous. He had essentially been in a foul mood all day.
His brows pulled together in a tight, angry line as he hit dial again.
This time, Quinn just muted her phone. She let it ring in silence, completely ignoring him.
Miles frowned so hard his forehead creased deeply. Was this woman ignoring him because she was afraid he'd interrupt her little date?
He switched to texting. [Quinn, we only have three months left. Can't you even wait that long? Need I remind you that you're still a married woman? Sneaking out with another man is entirely inappropriate.]
Quinn was taking a sip of lemon water when she read the message, and she nearly choked on it.
Was he tracking her?
She glanced around nervously, checking to see if anyone familiar was nearby or if someone was watching her.
Finding no one, she relaxed slightly.
Noticing her smile had disappeared, Ethan asked, "Quinn, did something happen?"
"No, Ethan. Just a boring message from someone completely irrelevant."
An irrelevant person?
Ethan immediately thought of Miles. Behind his lenses, his eyes darkened for a split second. "Your contract husband?"
"Huh?"
Quinn looked up, her eyes wide with surprise. How did Ethan know?
Ethan offered a warm, relaxed smile. "Lucky guess?"
"Yeah."
Seeing how uncomfortable she was talking about Miles, Ethan smoothly changed the subject.
"When we get back, you'll have to show me around Fairmont. I've been out of the country for way too long."
Quinn's bright smile returned. "Oh, so you're from Fairmont too?"
Ethan slowly lowered his eyes. Quinn, do you really not remember me at all?
