Quinn caught the dripping sarcasm in Jade's voice. She looked up with cold indifference and let out a sharp scoff.
"Ms. Winter certainly has a unique sense of elegance. Hanging off another woman's husband while acting like some moral crusader preaching to everyone in sight—it's truly an eye-opening performance!"
The divorce papers hadn't been finalized yet, which meant Miles was still very much a married man.
A dark, bitter resentment flashed through Jade's lowered eyes, but when she spoke, her voice was a perfect picture of sorrow.
Filled with gloom and grievance, she murmured, "Quinn, I was only trying to warn you out of the goodness of my heart. I didn't want you to sink so deep into the mud and regret it later. How could you take my kindness and twist it like this?"
She deliberately played the victim to draw sympathy from the crowd, subtly steering the narrative to paint Quinn as a cheap, loose woman selling herself for money.
Her intentions were pure poison!
Quinn was just about to put her in her place when Miles suddenly returned.
In his arms, he was holding a little toddler, barely over three years old.
"Dad, carry me."
"Leo, my good boy, are you clinging to Dad again?"
Quinn felt as though a sledgehammer had slammed directly into her chest. Her heart trembled with agony, drowning in a sudden wave of devastation.
Before this, she had always been locked in an internal battle, constantly comforting herself that she was just overthinking things.
She had told herself that maybe... the child Jade brought back from overseas wasn't even Miles's.
She had survived on that self-deception for a long time, preserving the last, pathetic shred of hope in her contract marriage.
But hearing the boy call him 'Dad' utterly shattered it.
Miles adored this child. The tenderness and indulgence written across his features were things she had never seen before.
