Words felt too shallow to express her gratitude. She would engrave his kindness in her heart. If Ethan ever needed anything, she wouldn't hesitate to help.
Ethan's demeanor was as gentle as jade. "I'm just glad you're okay, Quinn."
"Do you know who locked you in the restroom?"
"I called the police," Quinn replied. "I'm sure they'll catch the guy soon."
"I'll arrange a lawyer to help you track the case," Ethan offered. "We won't let the person who hurt you escape justice easily."
"Thank you."
The two kids sat inside, happily munching on their crepes. A sweet, creamy aroma filled the apartment as little smudges of whipped cream dotted their faces.
Ethan's features softened, a faint, tender smile playing on his lips. He pulled a tissue from the box and gently wiped Caleb's mouth.
Quinn mirrored the action, tenderly cleaning the cream from the corner of Luna's lips. "Slow down, sweetie, you've got it all over your face."
Luna's voice was sugary sweet. "Mommy, you eat too."
"Mommy is eating."
Quinn scooped a bite of the green mango crepe and put it in her mouth, her eyes curving into a smile. "It's sweet and tangy. Absolutely delicious."
The two little ones looked up at her, their bright eyes crinkling into happy little crescents.
"Daddy, you eat some too."
Quinn split the green mango crepe in half and offered him a clean fork. "Try it. It's really good."
Ethan took the plate and tasted the exact same cake, the exact same flavor. Sweet and tangy.
He remembered a night from many years ago—a night she had long forgotten.
Back then, they had shared a green mango cake, too.
Martha Avery had been working at a bakery. At the end of the shift, the manager told the staff they could take home the unsold cakes before they expired.
Martha gave Quinn a slice. Seeing him staring at her as he walked by, Quinn had smiled and split her green mango cake with him.
The sweet scent of mangoes and the cool night breeze had swirled around them.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
