She Walked Away With His Twins While He Begged the Ground She Walked On novel Chapter 147

Jack looked incredibly conflicted. "Ma'am, do you really want to move back to your old room?"

Seeing how much trouble simply vacating the master bedroom was causing the staff, Quinn compromised and decided to return to the first floor.

She refused to share the same floor, let alone the same room, as Miles.

As she packed, her eyes landed on a velvet box resting on the nightstand. She immediately recognized it as the million-dollar jewelry set she had handed over at the hotel to be returned to Miles.

How did it end up back here?

Gail smiled warmly. "Ma'am, Mr. York specifically instructed us to give this to you. Why don't you open it and take a look?"

The staff had begun to whisper that perhaps the boss didn't hate his wife as much as everyone assumed; why else would he gift her something so extravagant?

"Assistant Hunter mentioned this set is worth millions of dollars. It seems Mr. York truly cares about you, Ma'am."

Cares about her?

Quinn felt a bitter laugh bubble up in her throat. How could this possibly be a genuine gift?

It was nothing more than guilt money. He was simply paying the invoice for his ruthless cruelty that day, using an expensive trinket to soothe his own conscience and buy his peace of mind.

Gail helped her move her belongings down to her original room on the first floor. Stepping back into the familiar, modest space finally brought a measure of calm to Quinn's chaotic thoughts.

She pulled out the cartoon scarves she had been knitting for her two babies. Luna's was already finished, but Caleb's still needed a few more days of work.

After knitting quietly in her room for hours, she finally stepped out to stretch her legs, only to find Miles sitting at the kitchen island.

Quinn was entirely caught off guard. Hadn't he just left for a business trip? What was he doing back so soon?

She decided to pretend he was invisible. But the moment she stepped out, the man's eyes immediately locked onto her.

Seeing her blatant refusal to acknowledge his presence, he let out a cold scoff.

She clearly knew he was back from his trip and had come out specifically to see him, yet now she was playing hard to get by ignoring him.

Her childish antics were ridiculous, yet deep down, an unrecognizable, foreign sensation stirred within him.

If he had to label it as hatred... that didn't feel entirely accurate anymore.
