"Did you... knit a scarf for me once?"
Quinn's fingers paused slightly. Her face remained devoid of expression, though her lips pressed into a barely noticeable line.
"I forgot," she replied, her voice cold and detached.
How could she ever forget?
Back then, he hadn't even glanced at it before shoving it away in disgust.
Macy had dug it out and showed it off to their wealthy friends, turning her into a laughingstock for ages.
If he didn't like it, he could have just thrown it away. Was it really necessary to use it as a joke?
The memory of her own foolishness sent a suffocating wave of embarrassment washing over her.
Seeing her dismiss it, Miles didn't push the issue.
He glanced around the cramped room, his thoughts a tangled mess, unsure of what exactly was driving him.
"Quinn, you can move into the guest room on the second floor tomorrow," he offered in a sudden display of magnanimity. "You don't need to squeeze into this tiny space."
"There's no need. I'm perfectly fine here."
She rejected him flatly. She would never forget how callously he had warned her back then.
'From now on, do not set foot on the second floor without my permission!'
At the time, his words had made her blood run cold, as if she had been plunged into an icy abyss.
Defeated and heartbroken, she had retreated to this very room, shutting herself away, curling up under the blankets, and sobbing for hours as she nursed her wounds alone.
Now, she had built up her armor piece by piece. She was no longer that fragile, desperate girl.
And now he was telling her to move upstairs?
It was absolutely laughable!
"Quinn, I had no idea you were staying in this room."
Miles really hadn't known. He turned to Gail and demanded, "Gail, why is she staying in here?"
The maid lowered her head and murmured, "Mr. York, it was... Mrs. York and Macy who made the arrangements."
