She Walked Away With His Twins, While He Begged the Ground She Walked On novel Chapter 18

It was only when she saw the two adorable plushies on her bed that a soft smile graced her face.

Pulling the toys into her arms, she whispered gently, "Luna, Caleb, Mommy will be out of here so soon."

...

Out in the living room, Judith panted heavily. Sitting beside her daughter, her face was a mask of cold fury.

"She is completely out of control. It's all because of your father. He's so afraid of upsetting your grandmother that he insists on waiting out this ridiculous contract before they can divorce."

"He keeps preaching about the York family honoring their agreements. Otherwise, I would have thrown her out on the street ages ago."

Macy quickly agreed. "I know, and Grandma is being ridiculous too. Quinn's mother only looked after her for four years, and it's not like we didn't pay her a salary."

"Mom, it's only one more week anyway."

Judith was still seething. Her son was practically royalty—how did he end up tied to the pathetic daughter of a servant?

Every time she remembered that her son's perfect record would soon carry the stain of a divorce, reducing him to a second-hand husband, she despised Quinn even more, viewing her as an absolute plague.

"If that awful mess hadn't happened years ago, Jade would have been your sister-in-law by now. We wouldn't even be talking about this trash."

"Exactly. And you might have already had an heir to the York family by now."

These words drifted perfectly into the ears of Quinn, who had just stepped out to get a glass of water.

It felt like a damp wad of cotton had been shoved down her throat, leaving her chest tight and aching with suffocating pressure.

"Mom, there's one thing we have to watch out for. Even though Miles hasn't touched her since, what if she tries some dirty trick right before the cooling-off period ends? What if she crawls into his bed and gets pregnant?"

Judith's expression turned lethal. "She wouldn't dare."

"A servant's daughter thinks she can carry the heir to the York family? Does she think she's worthy?"

Standing in the hallway, Quinn clenched her fists so hard her nails nearly bit through the bandages.

She was incredibly thankful she had kept her secret so well, never letting a single clue about her twins slip.

She also hadn't harbored any foolish delusions that Miles's parents would keep her around or continue the contract just because she was pregnant.
