"Jade, I'm just worried she'll cross the line and hurt you. She's completely untamed and resorts to violence over nothing. You're too gentle and kind to fight back."
Ah, so he was just worried about her safety. She had almost thought he was taking Quinn's side.
Mollified, Jade accepted the tissue, dabbing her tears while maintaining her obedient facade.
"Miles, I'll... try my best to stay out of Quinn's way. But she seems to have some terrible misunderstanding about me. She despises me. Even if I avoid her, I'm afraid she'll still come looking for trouble."
Seeing how reasonable and accommodating she was, Miles felt his protective instinct flare even higher.
"I've already warned her. I'll make sure she formally apologizes to you and Leo for what happened yesterday."
Just not right now. He knew pushing Quinn too hard right this second might provoke her into stopping Luna from visiting Regency Bay this weekend.
So, he had to table the issue for now, even if it meant Jade felt slightly wronged.
"I picked out another international kindergarten for Leo. We can go check it out next week. It's even better than the last one."
Through her careful probing, Jade confirmed that Quinn hadn't tarnished Miles's opinion of her.
He was still fiercely protective of her, and her heart finally settled.
"Thank you, Miles."
Suddenly, she noticed the bandage on his hand was peeling at the corner, revealing what looked suspiciously like bite marks.
Her eyes widened in alarm. "Miles, what happened to your hand?"
"Did someone bite you?"
Miles instinctively pulled his hand back, his expression stiffening. "It's nothing. A wild alley cat scratched me last night."
"Miles, how could a stray cat get into Regency Bay?"
"Yeah. I was wondering the same thing."
Miles averted his gaze, a dark gleam flashing in his eyes as he recalled Quinn's infuriating stubbornness.
Jade was still suspicious. Those marks didn't look like scratches at all—they clearly looked like human teeth.
Miles smoothed the peeling bandage back into place, completely blocking her prying eyes.
To him, it wasn't a lie. Quinn was exactly like a feral little cat, daring to sink her teeth into him.
