Ethan felt a wave of disappointment at her explanation, though his tone betrayed nothing.
"Quinn, you don't need to apologize. From now on, we should just be careful about what we say in front of the kids so they don't catch on to anything."
Quinn blinked. "...Huh?"
Ethan chuckled softly. "I mean, I'll play the role of Daddy, and you play the role of Mommy and wife. That way, the kids won't overthink it."
A complicated emotion flickered across Quinn's face, her feelings a tangled mess.
After hanging up, she wanted to say something to Luna.
But she couldn't exactly tell the kids that Ethan wasn't their real father.
Whatever. As long as she and Ethan understood the situation, that was all that mattered.
Knowing that Quinn was bringing Luna to Regency Bay the next day, Miles York didn't check up on her that night.
He merely sent a text, reminding her not to forget it was the weekend tomorrow.
Quinn didn't reply to a single word. She simply turned off her phone and went to sleep.
That night, she slept soundly with her arms wrapped around the two kids, enjoying a night of sweet dreams.
The next day dawned bright and clear, with a gentle breeze.
The three of them set out together. They didn't bring Caleb, worried that the nosy guests at the party might accidentally rip off his mask.
Caleb was left with Stacy Jarvis. She was a live-out nanny who stayed in a nearby neighborhood. After having the previous day off, she had rushed over that morning.
As Quinn carried Luna downstairs, people were still moving furniture in and out.
Yara Chase noticed it was the neighbors from next door. They had only lived there for half a year—why were they moving so suddenly?
When she asked, the neighbor laughed. "The landlord sold the place for a sky-high price, so we had to move out today. They compensated us pretty well, though."
Yara was bewildered. "Really? I never heard anything about your landlord wanting to sell."
The couple waved goodbye. "Well... I have no idea. The new tenants are supposedly moving in today. We're heading out now."
...
At Regency Bay.
