Pinching the bridge of his nose, he spoke with heavy exasperation. "Quinn, your leg is wrecked. Where do you think you're going?"
Quinn ignored him entirely. Gritting her teeth against the pain, she forced herself up, took a few unsteady steps to find her balance, and headed for the door.
Miles angrily tugged at his collar, massaging his temples in utter frustration.
Gail couldn't bear to let her leave alone and called out, "Mrs. York, let me take you to the hospital! You're in too much pain to go by yourself."
Miles sounded thoroughly exhausted. "Gail, leave her be. Let her do whatever she wants!"
Refusing to listen, Gail hurried after her.
She barely made it out the front door before Quinn's body swayed precariously. Unable to hold on any longer, she collapsed onto the front lawn.
Gail's face went pale with terror. "Mrs. York!"
"Hurry, tell Mr. York! The madam passed out!"
Hearing the screams, Miles abandoned the stairs and sprinted outside. The sight of Quinn lying motionless on the grass sent an unexpected, sharp pang through his chest.
Without a second thought, he scooped her unconscious body into his arms and barked an order. "Tristan, get the car! We're going to the hospital!"
He then shouted back at Jack, "Tell Zack not to come here! We're heading straight to his hospital."
"Yes, sir."
...
When Quinn finally opened her eyes, she found herself lying in a hospital bed, staring blankly around the sterile room.
Zachary walked in, dressed in an immaculate white coat, his tone impossibly gentle. "Quinn, you're awake."
"Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"
