"Mrs. York, Madame Virmont will also be there. I heard she is good friends with Mrs. Pierce. I remember you had quite a good rapport with her in Callan City."
"I remember. Madame Virmont likes tea from our country. It would be great if you could prepare some."
"We're ahead of you. The York Group has already prepared a selection."
Quinn and Hunter chatted effortlessly, pointedly ignoring the imposing man sitting between them. The more they talked, the darker Miles's face became.
He let out a cold, mocking scoff, as if provoked. "Quinn, if Madame Virmont doesn't approach you first, don't throw yourself at her. You'll only make a fool of yourself."
Quinn still didn't spare him a glance. Even giving him a single word felt exhausting.
Hunter thought to himself, *Boss, if you didn't speak, no one would mistake you for a mute.*
Tristan also silently agreed that his boss's words had turned the car into a freezer. He would have been better off staying quiet.
Quinn closed her eyes to rest. Miles, his face completely shadowed, aggressively picked his tablet back up.
The car fell into a heavy silence. Up ahead, another driver was swerving erratically, clearly intoxicated or distracted by their phone.
Tristan jerked the steering wheel to avoid a collision. The sudden motion threw Quinn, who had been resting with her eyes closed, straight into Miles's chest.
A soft, warm weight collided with him, and her unique, delicate floral scent rushed into his senses, making his heart skip several unexpected beats.
"How is that person driving? Don't they know you shouldn't be on your phone? We almost crashed!"
Hunter gripped his seatbelt, having bumped his head slightly, and immediately memorized the other car's license plate.
Tristan quickly checked the rearview mirror. "Sir, Mrs. York, are you alright?"
Feeling thoroughly uncomfortable, Quinn pushed herself off Miles. "I'm fine."
Being shoved away so quickly sparked a flash of irritation in the man's eyes, reminding him of her previously icy demeanor.
*She throws herself into my arms when she needs me, and gives me the cold shoulder when she doesn't.*
*Who does she think she is?*

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
