"Forgive my presumption, but do we have an appointment? Or perhaps a mutual acquaintance who could introduce us? We don't seem to recognize you."
Even as the executive secretary of York Group, one simply couldn't barge into this elite circle without a proper introduction.
Jade's face stiffened. She had studied abroad and knew Western etiquette, but she was completely ignorant of the unspoken rules governing this ultra-elite social tier.
She hastily closed the distance to Quinn, acting as though they were intimate friends, and reached out to grab her hand.
"My apologies. I am the secretary accompanying Mr. York. Mrs. York here knows me."
She hated acknowledging Quinn as Mrs. York, but in this situation, she had no other choice.
She needed to use this connection to prevent the others from ostracizing her.
The ladies turned to Quinn, asking in English, "Mrs. York, do you know her?"
Quinn neatly side-stepped Jade's outstretched hand, her gaze aloof and distant. "We've met, but we aren't close."
Jade went completely pale. Looking flustered, she forced a laugh for the group.
"Quinn is just joking around. That's exactly how she is—she loves making people laugh."
Hearing Jade subtly insult her as a cheap entertainer, Quinn's eyes grew even colder, though her tone remained composed.
"I'm sorry, but I truly don't know you well. If you wish to network with Madame Virmont and Mrs. Pierce, you should follow proper social etiquette instead of forcing a connection with me. Please don't use a non-existent friendship as your stepping stone. Like I said, we aren't close."
Her words were a resounding slap in the face. Jade's complexion instantly flared crimson, her eyes darting around in absolute humiliation.
Quinn then turned and repeated her statement perfectly in English to the ladies. Hearing the translation, Madame Virmont and Mrs. Pierce immediately frowned.
Seeing that Jade was still hovering, they signaled for a waiter to escort her away.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
