"There might be a misunderstanding, right?"
"Fine. I'd love to hear what kind of excuse she has to offer."
Miles shot Hunter a cold glare, his expression darkening as he strode toward Quinn.
Approaching the group of elite wives, he politely excused himself, claiming he needed a moment with her, and promptly pulled Quinn away.
Moving through the crowd, he waited until they were out of sight before dragging her out onto the outdoor terrace.
The golden glow of the banquet hall was shut firmly behind the glass doors. The night wind on the terrace was biting, easily sweeping away the faint scent of wine that clung to their clothes.
Miles furrowed his brows tightly, his predatory gaze locking onto her as he launched straight into his reprimand.
"Quinn, how exactly did Jade offend you this time for you to humiliate her like that? Purposely saying nasty things to make everyone despise and ostracize her."
"Claiming you barely know her in front of those women—were you actively trying to destroy her reputation?"
Hearing his blind, rapid-fire accusations brought a wave of cold bitterness crashing over Quinn's heart.
Jade had faked closeness to infiltrate Madame Virmont's circle, deliberately trying to step on her to elevate herself.
Jade was the one with malicious intentions from the start, yet simply because Quinn defended herself, she was accused of causing humiliation?
How laughable.
Because in his eyes, whenever his fragile childhood friend felt wronged, it was automatically Quinn's fault.
She looked at the biased man standing before her, an overwhelming sense of exhaustion and self-deprecation washing over her. Explaining anything to him would be a complete waste of breath.
A faint, mocking smile touched her lips, her voice entirely devoid of emotion. "Miles, did I humiliate her, or did she deliberately try to humiliate me?"
"Why don't you go find out for yourself? I told Madame Virmont we weren't close. Was I wrong? We aren't close at all!"

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
