Quinn scooped her daughter up and kissed her cheek. "Did you miss Mommy?"
Luna and Caleb were the twins Quinn had secretly given birth to behind Miles's back. After that unexpected night, when she discovered she was pregnant, she had hesitated.-
She knew her marriage to Miles was just a contract. Once the time was up, he would divorce her.
But she had harbored a tiny sliver of hope—what if he actually wanted the baby?
Clinging to that fragile wish, she had gone to knock on his study door to tell him the news.
Instead, she accidentally overheard him talking to his cousin.
His tone had been dripping with disgust and contempt: 'A child of Miles York? Born from the stomach of a maid's daughter? Absolutely not.'
He had explicitly stated that even if she got pregnant, he would never let her keep it.
Standing outside the study, Quinn's blood had run cold. A suffocating wave of despair had crashed over her. She couldn't even remember how she had managed to stumble away from that door.
Seeing the scrape on her mother's forehead, Luna's bright eyes immediately welled up with tears. Her sweet voice was laced with heartache.
"Mommy, what... what happened to your forehead?"
Yara frowned as well. "Quinn, you're hurt again? Don't tell me this happened at the York house?"
Realizing she shouldn't press the issue in front of the child, Yara swallowed her questions and simply sighed.
Luna's big, dark eyes clouded over. She asked tenderly, "Does it hurt a lot? Mommy, let me blow on it for you..."
Quinn's heart melted. "Mommy's not in pain at all."
Luna looked miserable, knowing her mother had definitely been bullied.
"Mommy, if Daddy were here, he definitely wouldn't let anyone bully you."
A sharp, agonizing pang yanked at Quinn's chest, and a flood of bitter sorrow welled up inside her.
She turned her head slightly, refusing to let her daughter see the tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
If Luna knew the scrape on her forehead was caused by her own father, what would she think?
