Miles's tone was flat and serious. "Jade, go back to your room. I'll have Gail come up to help you."
"Miles, I'm so uncomfortable. It's going to take a while for Gail to come upstairs. It will only take you a second."
She was drenched in a provocative, high-end perfume, but all Miles felt was a wave of discomfort.
He pushed open the window, letting the overpowering scent drift out of the study.
Jade reclined against the chaise lounge beside the desk. She shifted her body, her fingers lightly tugging at the shoulder of her silk robe.
The fabric was already sheer and loose. With the movement, it slipped entirely off her shoulder, exposing her smooth, luminous skin beneath the warm, amber lighting.
Her long legs were completely bare, the hem barely covering anything at all.
With her back wrapped in layers of gauze, she knitted her brows. Her voice was soft, carrying a hint of suppressed grievance as she looked up at the man she loved.
"Miles... the bandages are too tight. My back is aching. Can't you just help me?"
She had timed this perfectly. Knowing Quinn had just come upstairs, she had intentionally left the study door cracked open when she entered.
As long as Quinn walked down the hall, she wouldn't even need to knock or open the door to see exactly what was happening inside.
Feigning clumsiness, Jade leaned forward slightly, letting the robe slip even further down.
The movement highlighted the stunning curves of her spine as she waited quietly for the man to reach out and touch her bandages.
"Jade, I'm calling someone upstairs."
Just as Miles turned to leave, panic gripped Jade. She lunged forward and grabbed his arm.
Using the excuse of aggravating her injury, she let out a sharp gasp of pain and collapsed directly into his arms.
"Miles... my back hurts so much!"
"Jade..."
Quinn arrived at the study door at that exact moment. She had been about to knock when she heard the voices inside and froze.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
