He stared darkly at the paper, his gaze so piercing it was as if he wanted to burn holes right through the man drawn on the page.
But the longer he looked, the more familiar the figure seemed. Had he met him somewhere before?
Quinn Avery returned at that moment, picking up a water bottle to give the two adorable kids a drink.
The man's ink-black eyes were already clouded with a chilling frost. "Quinn, why does Luna's drawing show you holding her while standing next to that man?"
He didn't explicitly say 'Luna's father,' deliberately using 'that man' instead.
Quinn's expression shifted. He had taken the family portrait Luna had drawn.
She lowered her gaze, hiding the turbulent emotions swirling in her clear hazel eyes.
"You're mistaken. The one standing in the back is me. The one holding Luna... is... is Yara."
Miles York froze. It was Yara Chase?
Why had his first instinct been that it was Quinn? She merely shared a similar eye shape with Yara.
But Quinn's eyes were visibly larger, much more expressive and bright. Yara's eyes were distinctly smaller in comparison.
"You're lying. This is obviously you. Look, the eyes are much larger than the woman drawn in the back."
Quinn had no idea how he had caught onto such a subtle difference so quickly. She hurriedly explained,
"It's just a child's drawing, she doesn't pay attention to those kinds of details."
"Yara is her mom, and I'm just her godmother. When it comes down to it, Yara is the closest person to her. Stop looking for trouble where there is none."
Miles choked on his words. Just as he was about to argue back, Luna trotted back over with her brother on her little legs.
"Godmother, I'm thirsty."
"Here you go."
The two kids took the water bottles she had prepared for them and drank obediently.
Seeing the two little ones, the intense anger on Miles's face instantly evaporated.
His voice warmed significantly. "Luna, Caleb, take a quick break, and then I'll play chess with you."
Caleb looked at him. "Weird Uncle, aren't you busy?"

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
