Jade glided toward him, a calculating gleam hidden in her eyes as she subtly sized up Quinn's outfit, silently comparing them.
She offered a perfectly timed, bashful smile. "Macy, please stop teasing me."
The guests' eyes darted back and forth between her and Miles, their expressions filled with unspoken intrigue.
Even though no one said a word, Quinn didn't need to guess what was running through their minds.
She lowered her gaze and gently guided the twins toward the exit.
"Excuse me, Evelyn. We'll be right back."
"Alright, Quinn. Come back inside and keep me company in a bit."
Miles immediately moved to follow them, but Jade naturally hooked her arm through his. "Miles... you haven't even seen the birthday present I so carefully prepared for Evelyn yet."
She signaled Mrs. Tibbs, who stood behind her, to open the extravagant gift box.
Inside was an embroidered tapestry depicting towering pine mountains and rolling seas of clouds, with eight characters stitched in silver thread: 'Endless Happiness and a Long, Healthy Life.'
The guests blinked in surprise. "Oh my, the Winter heiress also gifted Evelyn Artisanal Silkwork."
Hearing the word 'also', Jade's eyes narrowed sharply. Had someone else presented an embroidery piece as a gift before her?
Whatever. No matter what it was, it couldn't possibly compare to hers.
She had spent a fortune tracking this piece down in Silk City. Anyone else's gift would simply serve to make hers look even better.
Feigning perfect modesty, she smiled elegantly. "I know how much Evelyn loves Artisanal Silkwork—she even wears a shawl made from it. So, I specifically reached out to a friend in Silk City and commissioned a master artisan to embroider this Cloud Sea Embroidery months in advance. I really hope you like it, Evelyn."
Evelyn swept her gaze over the lavishly framed piece, offering it nothing more than a brief, indifferent glance. She remained perfectly polite, but entirely unmoved.
"That was very thoughtful of you, Jade."
Her tone was even, maintaining the flawless grace of a matriarch.
Seeing Evelyn dismiss her grand gesture with a single, lukewarm sentence, Jade's smile faltered.
She had expected Evelyn to lavish praise on the tapestry, to compliment the rolling clouds and the meaning behind the eight characters.
She had expected her to immediately order the servants to hang it up in the living room for everyone to admire.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
