But this time, the hostility rolling off him was far more intense and bone-chilling than any of his previous outbursts.
Looking into his pitch-black eyes, Quinn clearly registered the undisguised intent to destroy.
Her heart violently seized. For the first time, she realized he wasn't just throwing empty threats.
She shoved him away, her tone as cold as ice. "Miles, I already told you. Ethan and I are just friends. How many times do I have to say it?"
"Would a friend stick his neck out for you? Would a friend be hugging and holding you?"
"Quinn, I always knew you were restless, but I didn't think you were this bold! Sinking your claws into my own cousin?"
*Slap!*
Quinn instinctively slapped him across the face, her eyes red. "Miles, just because you have messy, ambiguous relationships, do you think everyone in the world is as filthy-minded as you?"
Miles pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, half his body swallowed by the shadows, making his expression unreadable.
"Rest assured, during the term of our contract marriage, I haven't crossed any lines. And I certainly haven't tangled myself up in messy, ambiguous affairs with other men like you have."
The first half of her sentence made the anger on Miles's face subside slightly.
But hearing the second half, his brow furrowed so deeply it could crush a fly. His icy demeanor showed no signs of thawing.
"Quinn, I will say this one last time. Jade and I are just friends. Leo is not my son. She and I are completely innocent. We have never crossed any lines."
Quinn let out a few sharp, mocking laughs. "Miles, do you even believe the words coming out of your own mouth?"
They were joined at the hip every single day, arms around each other, practically inseparable.
And he was claiming he and Jade were innocent?
That was the most laughable thing she had ever heard in her entire life!
A spike of panic hit Miles's chest. He absolutely hated that cold, detached look in her eyes.
"Quinn, what are you laughing at?"
Quinn closed her eyes. It was almost over anyway; there was no point in arguing about this anymore. From now on, they were destined to be strangers.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
