Hearing her walk in, he briefly lifted his gaze and gestured for Jack to hand her a gift.
Quinn looked at the butler in confusion. "Jack, what is this?"
Miles set his tablet down and walked over from the living room. "It's a little apology gift for Luna."
"I think I might have scared her again today."
Quinn couldn't read him anymore. Since when did the aloof and detached Miles York buy gifts to apologize to children?
At the same time, curiosity piqued within her. What exactly had he bought for Luna?
Opening the box, she found a smart learning tablet, the latest model with a premium blue-light filter.
He had been surprisingly thoughtful.
But the realization that he treated the boy named Leo the same way, showering Jade's child with endless affection, sent a bitter ache through her chest.
"Luna isn't actually mad at you. You didn't need to get her this."
"Just give it to her for me. If she doesn't want it, we'll deal with it then."
Miles's tone left no room for argument. He was confident that once the little girl saw it, she would love it and forgive him.
Quinn stared at the smart tablet, picturing what it would be like if Luna and Caleb tried to share it.
But there was only one device, and she had two children...
Miles had never once fulfilled his responsibilities as a father. Taking this was the least he owed them.
She accepted the learning tablet without a fuss and spoke on Luna's behalf.
"Thank you. I'll give it to her tomorrow and see if she likes it."
Back in her room, she snapped a picture of it and sent it to Yara.
Then she initiated a video call. Luna's sweet, soft face pressed close to the screen.
Her big, round eyes sparkled through the phone. "Mommy, I love it! Caleb and I both love the tablet you got us."
The tablet could read stories and teach kids how to read. Quinn had known her daughter would like it, but she hadn't expected her to be this thrilled.
Quinn smiled softly. "Luna, Mommy didn't buy this. Mr. Grump gave it to you. He wanted to apologize for scaring you today."
The handsome Mr. Grump?
