Hearing him say he hadn't forgotten, Jade looked up with a perfectly measured, gentle smile.
However, there was one thing still nagging at her. She couldn't figure out why Judith wasn't answering her calls or replying to her messages.
She had casually asked Macy about it, and Macy had just brushed it off, saying her mother was still recovering from a cold and told Jade not to overthink it.
"Miles, is Judith still sick with that cold?"
A cold?
Since when was his mother sick?
Ever since Grandma Evelyn's birthday gala, his mother had been acting completely out of character.
She had been calling him constantly over the past few days, interrogating him about Leo.
It was driving him insane. He had told her a million times: he and Jade were just friends.
His mother outright refused to believe him, claiming that anyone with eyes could see his relationship with Jade went far beyond standard friendship.
"Should we head over to the main estate this afternoon to visit her?"
Miles's eyes dropped back down to the documents, his tone indifferent. "No need. I have things to do, Jade. Go back to work."
Jade assumed he was just tired from a lack of sleep. Seeing his weary expression, she didn't push her luck by lingering in his office.
Smiling sweetly, she said, "Alright, I'll head out then."
...
When Miles returned to Regency Bay, Jack hurried over to inform him that his mother had arrived.
Judith was sitting rigidly in the living room. Her tea had gone completely untouched. Right now, she couldn't care less why Quinn hadn't come out to 'pay her respects.'
Seeing his mother's ghastly complexion, Miles asked in concern, "Mom, are you feeling any better?"
With her dreams of having a precious grandson completely shattered, Judith hadn't been able to eat or sleep for days.
Even her usual haughty, wealthy-matron aura had wilted. The dark circles under her eyes were prominent, and she hadn't had the energy to visit the spa for her maintenance routines.
"I'm fine. Let's go upstairs. I need to speak with you."
Once the study door clicked shut, Judith looked at him, desperately clinging to her last shred of hope. She still couldn't fathom that the boy she had doted on for so long wasn't actually her grandson.
Her voice trembled with unshed tears as she clutched her chest. "Miles, I need you to tell me the absolute truth. Don't worry about what your grandmother thinks right now. Is Leo your son or not?"
Judith was convinced he had lied to avoid angering Grandma Evelyn, opting to say whatever would pacify the old matriarch in the moment.

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
