Miles had fully expected her to fire back with a biting insult like she always did. Instead, Quinn remained completely silent and walked away.
He froze for a moment, finding her reaction strangely out of character, but quickly brushed it off. He closed his eyes and continued soaking in the freezing water to endure the burning heat.
...
The next morning, Quinn got up early. Looking completely drained of life, she joined Evelyn for breakfast.
Miles had barely slept. When he came downstairs, he sneezed several times. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and his lips were noticeably pale.
Evelyn immediately fussed over her eldest grandson. "Miles, what's wrong with you?"
He looked completely depleted. Was it possible that he was already losing his stamina at such a young age?
It seemed she needed to order some herbal tonics to build his strength back up.
"Did you not sleep well last night?"
Miles swallowed his frustration. "..." You had Ingrid drug me last night. How could I possibly sleep well?
Naturally, he couldn't say that out loud. "I didn't sleep well, and I caught a cold."
"Oh?"
Evelyn shot a look at Quinn. Did they end up fighting over the blankets in bed all night?
Quinn's expression was utterly cold and calm. She didn't say a word as she drank a glass of milk, her silence bordering on sheer apathy.
Miles discreetly glanced at her, their eyes briefly meeting in the air.
Her expression was dead and emotionless, and she looked away immediately, treating him like a complete stranger.
The heavy aura of lifelessness surrounding her—completely devoid of her usual fiery spirit—made Miles's chest tighten inexplicably.
"Quinn, why are you eating so little?"
Quinn's face remained blank as she turned to Evelyn. "Evelyn, I'm full. I'll be leaving now."
"Let the driver take you. Oh, and will Martha be discharged soon?"
"No need. Thank you for caring, Evelyn, but it will be a while before my mom is discharged."
With that, she grabbed her backpack, packed her laptop, and headed out.
