Quinn Avery and Yara Chase exchanged a helpless, conflicted look.
Yara took a subtle half-step back, avoiding the children's gaze as Quinn led her out to the balcony.
"Yara, what do we do? She's only met Miles a few times, yet... she actually agreed to go out for a kid's meal with him?"
Was this the so-called unbreakable bond of blood?
Yara clearly shared the same thought, keeping her voice to a soft whisper.
"At the end of the day, it's that father-daughter connection. You just can't outrun biology."
Quinn's chest tightened with a suffocating wave of anxiety.
Inside the room, Luna and her brother were whispering. "Caleb, is Mommy upset? If she doesn't want me to see the Weird Uncle, I won't go. I don't want her to be sad."
Caleb shook his head. With utmost seriousness, he spoke in a firm, confident little voice.
"Luna, Mommy is just talking it over with Yara. Since they're discussing it, there's a chance she'll let you go."
Luna blinked her big, bright eyes. "Yeah! Caleb, I promise to complete the mission. I'll figure out if that Weird Uncle is actually our daddy."
"Whatever happens, don't let them figure out what you're up to. You have to listen to Mommy and make sure no one finds out we're hers."
"And that Weird Uncle has a son named Leo. You need to be careful around him. He talks trash and bullies other kids."
"If anything goes wrong, call me on your phone watch. I'll tell you exactly what to do."
The two siblings linked their pinky fingers together, while Luna patted her little chest. "Got it! Leave it to me."
...
That evening, Quinn returned to Regency Bay.
Miles asked if Luna had agreed.
Quinn hesitated for a fraction of a second before giving a cold nod. "Her mother gave permission."
A wave of relief washed over Miles, his icy demeanor softening marginally. "Tomorrow, at the Lullaby & Laughter Bistro. Does six in the evening work?"
Quinn kept her expression blank. "I'll text her mother."
