She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 192

The moment Loyce stepped through her front door, she was greeted by Forrest’s assistant, Eric.

The man looked relieved to see her safe. He stood up, clutching a leather briefcase. “Miss, are you alright? Do you still have enough money?”

“I’m fine,” Loyce said. “Why?”

“My boss was worried you wouldn't have enough to enjoy yourself, so he had me prepare a five-hundred-million-dollar fund for the tables,” Eric explained. “But Mr. Shapiro wouldn't let me bring it to the casino. He went to find you alone, so I’ve been waiting here for your return.”

Loyce’s expression softened. “Thank you for your trouble. I’ll tell Forrest to give you a generous bonus at the end of the year.”

Eric’s face lit up. “Thank you, Miss! I won’t disturb you any further.”

News of Onyx Tiger’s assassination quickly reached the ears of the Deputy Mayor.

Standing in a hidden passage in his home, he made a frantic call to a man named Gavin. “Tell me, where did you get that shipment of weapons? Whose ship did you hit?”

Gavin, sitting in a private booth at a bar, sounded unconcerned. “I already told you, it was an accident. I hit the wrong ship. I thought it was carrying that new shipment of medical machinery from Eastern Europe, not smuggled weapons. Besides, it’s just stuff from some small-time armory. No big deal. You’ve been helping me move this stuff for a while now, and there haven’t been any problems, right?”

“Onyx Tiger was assassinated,” the Deputy Mayor said, his voice grim. “The entire shipment from last night’s casino deal has vanished, and every person involved was eliminated. I don’t know how much he told them about you, but to protect myself, you’d better tell me everything you know. Now.”

“Don’t you know? The number one assassin organization on the dark web is currently hunting for whoever hijacked that shipment! There’s already a bounty out for them.”

The Deputy Mayor’s voice trembled. “That organization never fails to kill its targets. No wonder Onyx Tiger’s death was so spectacular, yet the police have absolutely no leads.”

Gavin’s face went white. “But they don’t run an armory! How could that shipment be theirs?”

“Did you really think arms dealers can’t afford to hire the best assassins?” the Deputy Mayor sneered. “Gavin, the clock is ticking on your life. I can’t protect you. You’re on your own.”

After the call ended, Gavin sat in a stunned silence, his gaze falling on the remaining weapons he had kept for himself. A bone-deep chill ran through him.
