She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 971

Loyce narrowed her eyes. "Are you telling me my brother actually tagged along to your little party?"

Helena bit her lip. "It seems that way."

In Loyce's eyes, this defied all logic. Outside of music and absolute obligations, Morris never attended crowded, rowdy events.

She studied Helena closely. "Are you two dating?"

Helena blinked, taken aback. "Morris? No. Not at all." A self-deprecating smile touched her lips. "We belong to entirely different worlds. It's strictly a boss-and-employee relationship."

Loyce looked thoughtful. She remembered seeing her brother leave the dinner table in a hurry earlier. It hadn't made sense then, but now, she was certain something was going on between them.

Calculating her next move, Loyce dropped the bomb. "His hand is ruined."

Helena's face drained of color. "What?!"

"Don't look at me with that shocked expression," Loyce said flatly. "It's shattered. The car rolled right over the back of his hand. Comminuted fractures. Even with extensive rehab, his mobility will be permanently limited."

Helena's knees buckled. She leaned heavily against the wall, tears spilling over her lashes before she could stop them. "He's a piano prodigy. His entire life revolves around his music. Ms. Lonsdale, you know this better than anyone—he can't lose his hands."

"His face is severely scarred, too," Loyce continued, her tone indifferent. "The lacerations were deep, and scars are inevitable. I'm a surgeon, not a god. I can't magically restore all his motor functions."

Before turning to leave, Loyce added, "I believe you two are responsible for this. Morris hates crowds. Your boyfriend practically forced him to go, placing him right in the crosshairs of his enemies. The Lonsdale family will be looking into liability."

She paused, letting the threat hang in the air. "If you invite a man of his net worth, you should have provided security matching his status."

Loyce knew she was twisting the knife and being unreasonable, but her instincts told her to tie Helena to her brother. Whatever Morris felt for this woman, it wasn't simple.

Helena slumped into a chair in the corridor. Top-tier medical specialists hurried past. They had all heard Loyce's harsh words and were too intimidated to correct the narrative. The truth was, Morris's surgery had been flawless. The recovery would be long, but thanks to Loyce's meticulous, world-class reconstruction of his bones and nerves, his finger dexterity was completely preserved.

With Loyce as the lead surgeon, it was never going to be a problem.

The light above the operating room finally clicked off.

As the double doors swung open, Helena shot out of her chair, banging her knee against the metal handrail. She ignored the sharp sting of pain.

Morris was wheeled out on a gurney. A layer of white gauze covered his face, leaving only his closed eyes and bloodless lips visible.
