She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 218

"No, it's for Elise," the guard clarified. "She prepared this invitation specifically for you."

If it was from Elise, she couldn't refuse. Loyce nodded and took the invitation.

Lucian had overheard the entire exchange.

Cyrilla, curious, asked him, "Who are the Winslets?"

"Shipbuilders," Lucian said dismissively. "Not worth mentioning."

Yet, the moment he got home and parked the car, he went straight to the front gate and asked the guard if an invitation from the Winslet family had arrived for him.

The guard shook his head, looking confused. "No, sir. No invitations from the Winslets today."

Cyrilla noticed Lucian's mood instantly darkened, the light in his deep eyes dimming.

Later, when Lucian went into his study, Cyrilla tiptoed to the door to eavesdrop. She heard him calling his friends, specifically asking if they had received an invitation from the Winslets.

After a round of calls, Lucian discovered that the Winslets had invited numerous prominent families but had pointedly excluded him. He immediately understood what Elise was planning for her grandson. In the end, Lucian asked a friend to give him their invitation, telling him he'd owe him a favor.

Cyrilla was shocked. He had just claimed the Winslets were insignificant, yet now he was practically begging for an invitation to their party. Why?

An image of Loyce flashed through her mind. Could it be because of her again? What kind of spell did this Loyce have over him?

Cyrilla crept back to her room, opened her laptop, and started frantically searching for information about Loyce.

...

Loyce spent the entire night writing the report on Gavin's medical equipment and emailed it to Lucian. To get it done, she didn't sleep at all. When she finally tried to nap the next day, she saw dozens of unread emails in her inbox. They were all resumes from applicants for the hospital.

She gave up on sleep, made herself a cup of coffee, grabbed a piece of toast, and sat down in the sunroom with her tablet to sift through the applications.

It took her the entire day to go through the hundreds of emails, and she cut the pool of candidates by more than half. As she reached the very last email, Loyce's eyebrows shot up in surprise.

Sapphire Walsh? She actually submitted an application? Has she lost her mind?

“Does she not know Walsh Hospital has a new owner, or does she actually want to come work for me?”
