She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 8

Loyce snapped, “If we don’t leave now, your admiral is going to die. Are you prepared to answer for that?”

Still suspicious, the two officers escorted her into the car and took her to the Shapiro estate.

It was imposing—towering Roman columns holding up a broad portico, ornate carvings gleaming in the sun.

Loyce crossed the corridor and followed the officers into an elevator in the main hall, heading down to the underground level.

When the doors opened, bright crystal lighting spilled out. A crowd of world-class doctors had already gathered outside Lucian’s room. No one had a solution. They were all waiting on the medication.

The Shapiro patriarch saw his men return and demanded, “Did you bring the medication back?”

The officers stepped aside, revealing Loyce behind them.

One answered hesitantly, “We did… but it’s with this young lady.”

Purity Walsh, head of the Walsh medical dynasty, immediately stepped forward and reached for the vial in Loyce’s hand. “Give it to me.”

Loyce avoided her hand and took two steps back, voice calm. “High-purity Nexo-7 is highly toxic until it’s processed. It wasn’t treated in time. I’m the only one who can use it safely.”

A wave of disbelief ran through the room.

Purity let out a cold laugh. “You’re a delivery girl and you think you understand this medication better than I do? In front of Metropia’s top physician, you still dare to talk big. Hand it over.”

Zeke didn’t fully believe she was SaintHealer. If she were SaintHealer’s protégé… that commanding presence did make it plausible. He paused, thinking, then said, “Everyone here, who can guarantee, one hundred percent, that my grandson will survive after taking this medication? If you can, step forward.”

Purity immediately stepped to the front. Several other famous doctors, eager for the chance, moved forward too.

Zeke’s voice turned hard. “If you fail and anything happens to my grandson, don’t expect to leave this place alive.”

Every doctor’s face changed. Everyone knew Lucian’s condition was violent and complex. One mistake and he’d die. Who would stake their own life on it?

Even Purity, usually arrogant, felt fear creep in when she remembered the Shapiro family’s reputation. Still, she kept her lofty posture. “I’m not refusing to treat him. But your words are an insult to my skill. Lucian’s illness is complicated—no one can promise he won’t die. Unless you take that threat back, I won’t treat him, and he won’t even make it through tonight.”
