She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 825

The head nurse from the hospital nodded respectfully. "I will get that prepared immediately."

While they waited for the hospital staff to transfer Giselle to the VIP suite, the pregnant woman in the neighboring bed, sensing that Loyce was not someone to mess with, finally quieted down. Soon after, her husband rushed into the room, carrying three takeout boxes.

Just when it seemed like the food was meant for his family, the man surprisingly handed one of the boxes to Giselle with a seemingly good-natured smile. "I noticed you haven't had any family visiting you these past few days, and you've only been eating the hospital's bland soup and crackers. It must be hard being all alone. I bought an extra meal just for you."

Seeing her husband fawning over the 'homewrecker,' the pregnant wife absolutely lost it. "Oh, so you're rich now?! Buying meals for strangers?! What, is she carrying your bastard child or something?!"

The husband whipped around and glared at his heavy-set wife. "Shut your mouth! Do you think everyone stuffs their face like a pig the way you do? We share a room. What's wrong with helping out?"

Giselle awkwardly declined the man's offer. Loyce calmly stepped in to explain, "Her early-stage caloric intake was too high, causing the fetus to grow larger than average, which makes a natural delivery high-risk. A light, clean diet is safer for labor."

"Are you her family?" The man scoffed. "She's been hospitalized this long, and I haven't seen a single relative. Are you guys broke or something? Is this how you take care of a young pregnant woman?"

Loyce quickly realized there was no reasoning with a fool.

Giselle frowned in annoyance. "Sir, my background is none of your business. Please just leave me alone."

"Ungrateful brat," the man sneered, his friendly facade vanishing. He yanked the privacy curtain shut, completely blocking them off.

Loyce looked at Giselle. "Why weren't you in a VIP suite to begin with?"

"When I was admitted, I was the only one in this room," Giselle explained softly. "I thought I was just going to have a smooth delivery, so I didn't want to cause any trouble or waste your resources."

Loyce gently brushed Giselle's hair. "Giselle, you aren't that penniless girl anymore. Do me a favor and start acting like your health is actually worth something."

Giselle nodded, looking slightly embarrassed.

As they chatted, the pregnant woman next door suddenly went into agonizing labor contractions. Her arrogant attitude evaporated, replaced by breathless wails of pain. A doctor rushed in, repeatedly asking if she wanted an epidural, but the seemingly 'good-natured' husband stubbornly refused every time.

"No drugs! It's a waste of money!" he snapped. "Every woman gives birth like this. She'll survive!"

The woman's screams were so agonizing that even Giselle felt her nerves fraying. Unable to listen to the suffering any longer, she called out, "It's just an injection. If she needs it, let her have it!"

"Easy for you to say when you aren't paying the bill!" the man barked, poking his head around the curtain. The mention of money had turned his face ugly. He turned back to his screaming wife. "Look at that woman next door! Pregnant with a bastard, and her family doesn't even care! But you? I feed you until you're fat and happy. You should be grateful!"
