Loyce rested her head against his chest, letting out a soft laugh. "What are you thanking me for? You're going to be a father. I need my husband in top shape."
She looked up at him, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Besides, once you're cured, you'll have the stamina to keep up with me for a long, long time."
Lucian smiled, pressing a lingering kiss to her forehead.
"Deal."
They held each other as they watched the sun dip below the horizon.
After a few moments, Loyce shifted in his arms. She set her glass on the table and looked up at him.
Lucian recognized that look immediately.
"Loyce..." he started, but she was already up on her tiptoes, looping her arms around his neck and pulling him in.
"Let's celebrate," she whispered, her lips brushing against his jaw.
Lucian swallowed hard. "I want to, but... you're..." His hands settled on her hips, his touch painfully cautious. "You're seven months along."
"I'm perfectly stable," she cut him off, her hands roaming down his chest. "I'm a doctor, I know my limits better than anyone. It's fine."
"But..."
"Lucian Shapiro," she pouted playfully, "do you not want me?"
He surrendered immediately. "No, no, I definitely want you."
Loyce's eyes curved into beautiful crescents. "Good."
She grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the bedroom.
"Promise me you'll tell me if you're uncomfortable," he negotiated as he let her drag him along. "Don't push yourself..."
"I know, I know."
"We have to take it slow..."
