Giselle took a slow sip of her coffee, mentally deciding she'd be paying for her own drink to avoid owing this guy a cent.
Sitting nearby, Hank finished his espresso and stood up, looking thoroughly relaxed.
If these were the kind of men Emma was throwing at her daughter, he had absolutely nothing to worry about.
Bachelor Number Three was a small business owner. He looked rugged and honest enough, but within five minutes, he was grilling her on her salary, her savings, and trying to calculate exactly how much financial "leverage" she brought to the table.
When adults turn romance into a blatant financial transaction, it's just ugly. Giselle had zero interest in spending the rest of her life with a human calculator. She set her cup down, offered a polite, "I need to use the restroom," and walked straight out the front door.
Day one of the blind date marathon left Giselle utterly exhausted. When she got home and recounted the disasters to Emma, her mother shockingly defended them.
"Marriage is about building a life together, sweetie. It's totally normal for them to be practical. No one wants to marry into a situation that lowers their standard of living. As long as they treat Gigi well, that's what matters."
Giselle rubbed her temples. "I really don't want to go tomorrow."
Emma wouldn't hear of it. "So these guys were duds, who cares? Tomorrow's lineup is much better. There's one I'm particularly excited about. He's a medical doctor who actually came to my clinic to research Frost Peppermint. We chatted for a bit—he's incredibly gentle, well-spoken, and has excellent manners."
Seeing her mother's desperate, hopeful expression, Giselle reluctantly nodded.
But the next day proved to be more of the same. By the afternoon, she was completely dead inside, just waiting to get the final date over with so she could go home and pack for her trip.
