She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 925

A booming voice from the helicopter's megaphone cut through the storm. "Rescue units are en route! If you are conscious inside the vehicle, do not move! I repeat, do not move!"

As the helicopter continued to circle endlessly without dropping a rescue line, Myles grew frantic. "Why won't they just drop a rope down to us?! What the hell are they waiting for? Are they just going to wait until we fall?!"

Giselle, maintaining her icy composure, shot him a withering look. "If they drop a line right now, who do you think they're going to pull up first? You, or me?"

"We'd go one by one, obviously," Myles retorted.

In this life-or-death situation, his facade of chivalry had completely evaporated. But meeting Giselle's cold, judgmental stare, he suddenly shut his mouth.

"You already proved it a minute ago. If a single person shifts their weight, this car goes over the edge," Giselle said emotionlessly. "They have to find a way to anchor the vehicle first to ensure it won't drop before they can safely extract us."

Even through her sheer terror, Chloe glared at Myles with undisguised disgust. It took staring death in the face to reveal just how deeply selfish this man truly was.

Soon, the flashing red and blue lights of emergency vehicles pierced the torrential rain, illuminating the cliffside from the road above.

Rescue trucks parked along the treacherous edge. Figures clad in high-visibility vests scrambled back and forth through the headlights, their urgent shouts drowned out by the howling wind and pounding rain.

Giselle couldn't make out what they were saying, but she watched as ropes were lowered over the ledge. Several rescue workers attempted to rappel down to secure the SUV, only to retreat after a few yards. The rock face was far too steep and slick with mud. Without a safe foothold, the professionals simply refused to risk their own lives.

Minutes bled into each other.

Watching the figures pace endlessly above, trying and abandoning the descent time and time again, the tiny spark of hope that had ignited in Giselle's chest began to slowly die out.

Myles began to panic all over again. He kept craning his neck to look up at the road, terrified to make a sudden move, muttering desperate prayers for them to hurry.

The car abruptly lurched downward again, the most violent drop yet. The lone pine tree propping them up let out a sickening, splintering crack.

The entire vehicle swung like a pendulum over the abyss. Chloe screamed. Myles's face drained of all color, looking like a corpse. His lips trembled uncontrollably, his fingers frantically gripping and releasing the door handle over and over again.
