She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 935

Hank grabbed a package of steaks, but Giselle smoothly plucked it from his hands, flipped it over to check the expiration date, and promptly swapped it for a different pack.

Hank wasn't exactly well-versed in grocery shopping. He stared at the meats, completely unable to spot the difference.

Giselle finally took pity on him and swatted his hand away playfully. "I'll handle this, city boy."

Hank blinked, momentarily caught off guard, before he realized she was teasing him. He leaned in, his breath brushing against her ear. "I might be a little out of my depth in the grocery aisle, but I'm incredibly capable in other areas."

Giselle just rolled her eyes at him.

Back at the apartment, Giselle tied on an apron and got to work in the kitchen. Hank trailed right behind her like a lost puppy.

She tried to shove him back toward the living room. "Just go wait out there."

He had zero culinary skills, so standing in the kitchen just made him look like a very handsome, very large obstacle. But Hank refused to budge. "I'm helping."

His mind had helpfully supplied another memory of a different man cooking with her, and his competitive jealousy flared up. He planted his feet, stubbornly refusing to leave.

Giselle gave him a sidelong glance, sighed, and handed him a bunch of green onions. "Wash these."

Hank obediently took them to the sink. Whatever she told him to do, he did it without complaint. Giselle caught herself looking at him a few times. She wasn't blind—she could feel the shift in him. He really had changed from the man he used to be.

She quickly seared the steaks and threw together a couple of side dishes. They sat at the dining table and clinked their glasses together.

Hank had always thought Giselle was a phenomenal cook. He ate enthusiastically, making sure to fill the silence with everything he had been up to during the weeks they hadn't seen each other.

He had practically cut out all social gatherings. His days now consisted strictly of executive board meetings, the gym, and staying home. He even pulled out his phone and slid his personal calendar across the table for her to inspect.

Giselle raised an eyebrow. "Why are you showing me this?"

"I don't want any more misunderstandings between us," Hank said, holding her gaze. "I want you to know that when I'm not with you, I'm staying completely out of trouble."

Giselle was momentarily speechless. The raw sincerity in his dark eyes was impossible to ignore. She looked down at her plate and murmured, "I get it."

Hank smiled, his mood soaring.

After dinner, Hank insisted on cleaning up. It was his apartment, after all, so Giselle let him have at it. Of course, 'cleaning' just meant him stacking everything into the dishwasher and shutting the door, but it was the thought that counted.
