They barely exchanged a couple of words before the fight broke out.
Couldn’t they have at least given him a heads-up?
If Frank had known, he would’ve called the police the second those thugs showed up.
Panic surged through him, but he had no choice but to fight back.
Shawn, on the other hand, was a powerhouse.
After their last run-in with Sabrina, the two of them had developed an unspoken understanding—they stood back-to-back, ready for whatever came their way.
Someone lunged at Stella with a knife. The first swing missed, but the second came slicing toward her. She dodged by leaning back, then delivered a swift kick straight to the attacker’s groin, snatching the knife from his hand as he doubled over.
Now armed, she swung the blade wildly at their attackers.
Sabrina and Shawn had already disarmed their opponents, seizing an iron pipe and a machete. Sabrina even tossed Frank an iron pipe without missing a beat.
He snatched it up from the ground, ignoring the pain radiating through his battered body, and charged at the next thug. He’d taken two hard hits already and felt like his whole body was one giant bruise.
In the narrow alley, the clash of metal and shouts filled the air.
“There are too many of them—we need to find an opening and run!” Sabrina shouted over her shoulder before throwing herself back into the fray.
These guys weren’t holding back. Every swing, every stab was meant to do damage. They fought with the brutal efficiency of people who’d done this before.
Frank was miserable. Where the hell were they supposed to run? There were so many of them—if they didn’t get killed, they’d be beaten to a pulp from sheer exhaustion.
What kind of grudge was this, anyway? Did they really have to start swinging knives the second they showed up?
“Stop! I’m Frank—can’t you guys cut me some slack?” he yelled, trying to reason with them while fending off another attack.
Their enemies split into groups, holding off Shawn, Stella, and Frank, while the rest all zeroed in on Sabrina.
“Come on! Not the face!” Frank shouted as a fist landed squarely on his cheek. He’d only gotten in the way, but there was no time to nurse his pain—he swung his pipe at the guy who’d punched him, making him stagger back with a groan.
That move, though, just pissed off the others.
“You hit me, you little punk? I’m gonna split your skull!” one of them yelled, grabbing the machete he’d dropped earlier.
Frank instantly regretted going on the offensive. Why hadn’t he just kept his head down?
He glanced around—two guys each were ganging up on him and Stella. Shawn had six on him. The rest had surrounded Sabrina.
He couldn’t even see Sabrina through the chaos—whether she was holding her own or already down, he had no idea…
