She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 101

Rowan's voice was hoarse, lacing his words with an indiscernible chill. "Lyra, I highly suggest you stay in your lane. Otherwise..."

He didn't need to finish the threat. Anyone with half a brain knew exactly what Rowan Jameson was capable of. He had never been a saint. A year ago, a few guys had crossed him on his yacht—they were still hooked up to feeding tubes in a private ward.

Lucas quickly stepped between them to diffuse the tension. "Rowan, come on. It had to be Madeline. Lyra doesn't have the guts for something like this, but Madeline definitely does."

"The hell I don't!" Lyra snapped, ready to tear into Lucas, but he immediately clamped a hand over her mouth.

Just then, the red light above the surgery doors clicked off. The medical team wheeled Jasmine out, and Rowan instantly abandoned the argument, rushing to her side.

At that exact moment, Tabitha arrived in a panic, flanked by Jonathan, Finn, Thomas, and Elara. Seeing Jasmine unconscious and pale on the gurney, the family's expressions darkened instantly.

"Lyra Fairchild, this is your fault!" Tabitha shrieked. "She was perfectly fine until she ran into you! If it had been any more serious, my daughter could have lost her life!"

Tabitha raised her hand, ready to strike. Lyra squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the impact.

But the slap never landed. Lucas intercepted Tabitha's wrist, his gaze dropping to a freezing temperature. "Let's wait until the police actually catch the hit-and-run driver before we start throwing hands, alright?"

Tabitha immediately looked to Rowan to gauge his reaction. The CEO's expression remained perfectly stoic, seemingly in agreement with Lucas's logic. Wanting to maintain the image of a refined future mother-in-law, Tabitha awkwardly pulled her hand back. "Fine."

She clenched her fists and added, "But Mr. Jameson, if the investigation proves Lyra was behind this, you have to promise me you'll get justice for Jasmine."

Rowan gave a single, rigid nod. "I will."

Satisfied with his word, the entire extended family hurried down the hall to follow Jasmine to her recovery suite. Before stepping into the room, Elara shot Lyra a venomous glare.

Left standing alone in the sterile corridor, Lyra waited a beat before turning on her heel and walking away. She knew Jasmine wasn't going to die.

After checking on Jasmine and speaking extensively with her surgical team, Rowan finally left for the Jameson Group headquarters. With him gone, Lucas saw no reason to linger. He offered his brief sympathies to the Fords and took his leave.

...

Jasmine offered a delicate smile. "What doesn't kill me makes me stronger."

She thrived on the friction. If enduring a little physical trauma meant Rowan would grow to hate Lyra even more, then every bruise was worth it.

"It's no wonder Mr. Jameson is so captivated by you," Elara gushed in awe. "You carry yourself exactly like the future Mrs. Jameson should."

"Don't tease me," Jasmine murmured, a rare, fetching blush creeping onto her usually pale cheeks. She turned her head away shyly and coughed into her hand.

"Alright, enough gossiping. Let her hydrate," Tabitha scolded gently.

Finn quickly poured a glass of warm water and handed it to his sister. A few sips later, Jasmine visibly relaxed.

The hospital director and the chief of surgery bustled into the room, checking her vitals with painstaking care. "Everything looks stable. Miss Ford simply needs to rest."

"We'll run another scan later this evening, just to be absolutely certain."
