She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 102

The hospital director turned to the chief of surgery. "Make sure the thermostat in the CT room is turned up. We can't have Miss Ford catching a chill."

Tabitha beamed. "Thank you so much, Doctor."

Laying in the luxurious VIP suite, Jasmine couldn't completely hide her disappointment that Rowan wasn't sitting beside her. Still, she knew the hospital administration would have him on speed dial.

Her status had clearly shifted.

Sure enough, twenty minutes later, Rowan strode into the room. The director and the chief of surgery practically snapped to attention, smoothing their lab coats like soldiers before a general. They performed yet another meticulous check of Jasmine's vitals.

"Rest assured, Mr. Jameson," the director said with utmost reverence. "We are utilizing our most advanced treatments and our top-tier nursing staff. We will minimize Miss Ford's discomfort and guarantee a flawless recovery."

"Give us the room," Rowan dismissed them flatly.

Once the door clicked shut, he moved closer to the bed. "How are you feeling?"

Jasmine's complexion was still pale, but she kept any trace of self-pity out of her eyes. "I'm alright."

"Alright? You are far from alright!" Elara interjected, unable to help herself. "You must be in agony! Just like the other day at the cafe, when Lyra's friend humiliated you, and you just took it..."

"Elara, stop," Jasmine said, cutting her off with a gentle but firm look.

Rowan's jaw tightened. "I will get to the bottom of this. You have my word."

Jonathan and Tabitha exchanged a look of profound relief. Seeing the hospital staff bend over backward to accommodate them had already soothed their anxieties, confirming that Seaborne City's elite finally recognized the Ford family's rising power.

Rowan stayed for another thirty minutes. When he finally stepped out into the corridor, Jonathan was waiting for him, and the two men spoke in hushed, serious tones before Rowan departed.

Not long after, an extravagant floral arrangement arrived from Lucas.

"I'm so jealous," Elara sighed dramatically, eyeing the expensive blooms. "You've always had the best men wrapped around your finger. If it meant getting this kind of attention, I'd willingly throw myself in front of a truck."

Valerie and Thomas exchanged amused glances and laughed. Jonathan chuckled along with them.

...

"But we didn't even do anything!" Madeline's jaw trembled with frustration. "We had nothing to do with that hit-and-run! All I did was talk back to her at a coffee shop! Rowan is ruthless!"

Lyra opened her mouth to reply, but her phone vibrated. It was the office, demanding her immediate return.

She gave a quick, noncommittal answer and hung up.

Madeline shifted uncomfortably, suddenly looking guilty. "Lyra, I'm so sorry. My dad and uncle totally threw you under the bus. They told Rowan you were the one who put me up to insulting Jasmine. You didn't even do anything..."

Lyra paused, her expression softening. "It's fine. You were just trying to stand up for me."

She wasn't angry. In fact, she had hoped they would blame her. Taking the heat for Madeline was the least she could do.

Madeline looked even more miserable at Lyra's easy forgiveness. "But why is Rowan so obsessed with her?! Just because she pulled him from a wreck? Does that even make sense? I remember the first time you brought Jasmine to one of our parties. Rowan looked right at her and asked what kind of stray you'd dragged in this time."

Madeline vividly remembered the mocking smirk on Rowan's face, and how Jasmine had run off in tears.
