She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 107

The next day, Lyra returned home from work.

As she stepped into the foyer, she heard Delilah asking in a troubled voice, "But haven't we always handled that sector of the business?"

Catching sight of his daughter, Arthur signaled for his wife to drop the subject.

Delilah saw Lyra but pressed on anyway. "Lyra, give Rowan a call. Your brother has completely fallen out with him and refuses to make contact. Your dad feels it's inappropriate for him to call a younger executive. Just ask Rowan why that government project was handed over to the Ford family."

Lyra froze. "Mom, we aren't that close."

Ever since her rebirth, Lyra had deleted Rowan's number. Expecting her to willingly reach out to him now was out of the question.

Delilah frowned. "You used to follow him around everywhere calling his name. How can you say you aren't close?"

"That was in the past. Ever since he fell for Jasmine, we've practically been strangers."

Delilah was left speechless. She didn't know whether to praise her daughter for having a backbone or scold both her children for offending Rowan and dragging the family down.

Arthur chuckled and patted Lyra on the shoulder, clearly approving of her stance. "Go wash up for dinner. Caleb isn't joining us tonight."

"Okay, thanks, Dad."

Grateful that her father hadn't pressured her, Lyra happily washed up and sat down to eat.

However, the very next evening, Arthur returned home with a glacial expression, looking so furious that the tension in the room was palpable.

"What happened? Who made you so angry?"

Delilah hurried over, taking his briefcase with obvious anxiety in her voice.

"It's that Jameson brat..." Arthur started, but quickly stopped himself. He glanced upstairs, and only after confirming Lyra wasn't in sight did he continue. "I see it clearly now. He's dead set on handing every scrap of business to Jonathan Ford. He isn't leaving a single crumb for us."

Standing in the shadows at the top of the stairs, Lyra wasn't surprised in the slightest.

It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Her parents were destined to be disappointed.

She no longer felt the agonizing sting of Rowan's heartlessness, but it pained her to see her parents let down.

Lyra turned and walked back to her room.

"But Ford Enterprises has Rowan backing them. With him in their corner, will our partners..." Caleb trailed off.

Lyra knew exactly what he meant. With Rowan's influence, brand visibility was the least of their worries. There was a very real chance that Fairchild Holdings' long-term partners would jump ship to work with the Fords.

Delilah, overhearing their conversation, furrowed her brow as well.

Rumors were swirling in their social circles. Thanks to Rowan's 'assistance,' the Fords had already locked down several massive projects. While they hadn't directly attacked Fairchild Holdings yet, both families operated in the exact same industry. If Rowan kept fueling their rise, it would inevitably bleed into the Fairchilds' profit margins.

Eventually, Rowan might even wage open war on Fairchild Holdings just to appease the woman he loved.

At that thought, Delilah cast a deeply worried glance at her daughter's profile.

Lyra had been so adamant about breaking the engagement. Was it a mistake to let her have the final say?

...

Later that evening.

Caleb followed Arthur into the study, his voice grave. "From the looks of it, Rowan is obsessed with Jasmine. He'll do anything to keep his girlfriend happy."
