She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 123

Two days later, Caleb returned.

Lyra breathed a massive sigh of relief.

She had a lunch date with Madeline Vance. Now that Maddie was no longer under house arrest, they had arranged to meet up.

It was the perfect opportunity for Lyra to hand-deliver her wedding invitation.

As Lyra pushed open the restaurant doors, Maddie had already ordered a few dishes and was sending the server away.

Spotting her friend, Lyra quickly walked over and pulled out a chair. "You look like you've lost weight."

Maddie nodded. "Yeah, I've been on a strict diet."

"Caleb is getting married next week. Take your family's invitation back with you." Lyra pulled the elegant envelope from her designer bag and handed it over.

Maddie's eyes lit up as she took the invitation. "Caleb is finally tying the knot! The first of our circle to settle down. Tell him I said congratulations!"

Lyra smiled brightly and clinked her water glass against Maddie's.

Maddie sighed. "It's a shame my weight loss has plateaued, so I can't eat any of this. I've been on a liquid diet for the past two days. Only coffee, milk, and yogurt."

Lyra frowned with concern. "You're out with me, so at least eat a little bit. Be careful, or you'll end up with ED!"

"ED? You mean erectile dysfunction?"

Lyra burst into laughter, thoroughly amused. "Where on earth did you get that? Have you been watching too many weird internet ads? You're a woman, why would I warn you about that?"

She rolled her eyes playfully. "I meant an eating disorder."

Maddie cupped her face in her hands, blushing furiously.

"Come on, just have a little bite. Take it at your own pace," Lyra said gently, serving some food onto Maddie's plate. "You can't get fat from one meal. Once we're done, I'll go to the gym with you to burn it off."

"You're the best." Maddie happily picked up her fork. She realized Lyra had never been this gentle before; lately, she felt more like a protective older sister.

Since Maddie didn't have an older sister of her own, she found the dynamic incredibly comforting.

The two shared their meal in a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

At the next table, a group of young men had been watching them. One of them considered walking over to hit on the gorgeous women, but his friend quickly shut him down. "Look at them. They're either filthy rich heiresses or sugar babies. Check out their bags—you couldn't afford one with a full year's coding salary."

...York.

She snapped her head up, and a second later, she was on her feet.

It was exactly the York Somerset from her memories.

Right now, he hadn't yet been recruited by Jameson Tech.

He was just a nameless IT grunt, trapped in a mediocre startup, getting bullied by his pathetic coworkers.

Seeing her friend stand up like she was about to fight for justice, Maddie grabbed her arm in surprise. "I know he's kind of cute, and you hate seeing cute guys get picked on, but isn't this a bit of an overreaction?"

Lyra acted as though she hadn't heard a word. She marched right over to the table with a dazzling, confident smile. "Excuse me, sorry to interrupt. Mr. Somerset, could I add you on social media?"

The table of men instantly went dead silent.

York looked up at her, utterly bewildered.

"Whoa, York, a gorgeous woman wants your number," one of his coworkers sneered, though internally he was seething with jealousy. Why was a stunning woman hitting on the office loser instead of him?
