She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 152

Her main reason was that Rowan despised messy, heavily seasoned meals like barbecue, meaning there was absolutely zero risk of running into him.

"Works for me," Quentin and the others agreed. "Barbecue it is."

With the plan set and their work wrapped up, the group packed their things and headed downstairs. They piled into a few cars and drove together to the restaurant Lyra had recommended.

They grabbed a window booth on the second floor, ordering a generous combo meal and a mountain of their favorite sides.

Lyra barbecued some sliced meat, half-listening to Quentin and York talking.

Somehow, the conversation naturally drifted toward relationships.

One of the engineers chimed in, "Miss Fairchild, is the office rumor true? Did you really have a fiance?"

Lyra gave a helpless little laugh. "I was engaged, yes, but he never really cared about it, and I wasn't going to force it. So, we ended it."

Quentin poured Lyra a glass of lemonade, watching the fizzy bubbles rush to the surface. "Are you seeing anyone now?"

Before Lyra could answer, another R&D guy spoke up. "She's dating Caspian Jameson, the younger son of the Jameson family. He's still in med school."

Lyra nodded with an amused smile. "That's right. I didn't realize you guys knew all that."

"I also heard that you were originally supposed to marry Rowan Jameson."

The moment the words left his mouth, a dead silence fell over the table.

Lyra coughed, suddenly choking on the spicy food.

Quentin shot a sharp look across the table.

Catching her breath, Lyra waved a hand. "Caspian and I aren't exactly what everyone assumes. I gave my heart to the wrong person in the past, but thankfully, that's all behind me now."

Sensing her discomfort, Quentin smoothly steered the conversation back to their latest project. The others took the hint, completely dropping the gossip.

After dinner, Lyra went to cover the bill, only for the waiter to tell her Quentin had already paid. She hurried after him. "Quentin, why did you pay for that?"

"You got the last one, so this one was on me," Quentin replied easily. "Besides, you know they pay me a ridiculous salary."

Flushing slightly at the implication, Lyra headed to her bedroom to pack, tossing a couple of outfits, her laptop, and chargers into a small suitcase.

Delilah was visibly worried when she heard about the sudden trip. "Should Arthur go with you?"

"I'm taking Secretary Montgomery," Lyra reassured her. "If something comes up, I'll figure it out."

Delilah gazed at her daughter. Just two years ago, Lyra was a spoiled, carefree girl. The collected, fiercely independent woman standing before her felt almost like a stranger, making Delilah's heart ache.

"Alright, just be safe on the road."

Delilah's eyes softened with warmth. "Arthur might not say it out loud, but he's endlessly proud of you. He brags about you to everyone at his social clubs, calling you his greatest achievement. He truly believes leaving Fairchild Holdings to you and Caleb is the best thing he could have ever done."

"I know, Mom," Lyra smiled softly.

She finished packing efficiently, sent a quick text to Secretary Montgomery, and headed to bed.

Lying in the dark, a sudden realization hit her. If this trip lasted three days, she might just miss Caspian's birthday entirely.
