She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 16

Chapter 16

“But Rowan doesn’t care about any of that!” Lyra cut him off, refusing to let him repeat the same old story.

In her past life, Rowan hadn’t given a damn about the arranged marriage. The only reason he eventually married her was because Alistair had suffered a heart attack and threatened to strip Rowan of the Jameson Group entirely. Even then, they had only signed the marriage certificate without a ceremony, because on the day of their wedding, Jasmine had flown out of the country, and

Rowan had abandoned the altar to chase after her.

The ring her parents valued so highly meant absolutely nothing to him.

“Whatever the Jamesons owed us in the past, they will make us pay back tenfold in the future! Rowan will target our family just to please Jonathan Ford. He will back the Ford Family and use them to completely dismantle Fairchild Holdings. Do you not care about that?” Lyra stared at her father, finally unleashing the truth she had been suppressing.

“He won’t just target the company! He will do horrific things to us. When the time comes, Rowan will force Fairchild Holdings into bankruptcy and leave us drowning in insurmountable debt!”

And she hadn’t even mentioned the worst of it. In her previous life, Rowan had completely annihilated their family.

She had been so blind, even begging him for help when the company started failing, never realizing

he was the mastermind behind their destruction.

The man destroying her family was the one sharing her bed!

Her father died. Her brother was destroyed.

And she hadn’t been able to survive it either.

Rowan had done it all without a single shred of remorse.

He was purely ruthless.

A chilling silence fell over the living room.

Delilah’s face went pale. She opened her mouth to speak, but Arthur raised a hand to silence her.

He stared at his daughter, his brows locked in a deep scowl. “Absurd! You are speaking pure nonsense.”

“If Rowan actually tried to do something like that, do you think Charles and Victoria would just stand by and watch?”

“If he were truly that ungrateful, your Grandpa Alistair would break his legs!”

“Do you have a single shred of evidence for any of these wild accusations?”

Arthur’s frown deepened. He didn’t believe a word of it.

Without leaving room for argument, Arthur turned and walked up the stairs.

He knew that if he stayed in the room a second longer, he might actually cave to his daughter’s

demands, and if he did, this highly advantageous alliance would be lost forever.

Lyra stood frozen in place, a myriad of complex emotions flashing across her face.

“Lyra…” Caleb began, wanting to assure her that he was entirely on her side.

But someone else beat him to it.

“Miss Lyra.”

Liam, having seen Arthur retreat upstairs, quietly slipped out of his room and pressed a slice of tiramisu into her hands. “I made it myself.”

Lyra looked down at the lopsided, slightly messy cake and let out a watery laugh, wiping her tears. “It looks delicious.”

Whether it actually tasted good was entirely debatable.

Seeing her finally smile, Caleb let out a breath of relief.
