Chapter 17

The next morning, Arthur intentionally cleared his schedule. He spent the morning working in his study and later sat in the living room reading the newspaper, making it blatantly obvious he was guarding the front door to ensure Lyra went to the Jamesons’.

Seeing she had no way out, Lyra locked herself in her room and dialed Caspian Jameson, Rowan’s younger adopted brother.

If her family was absolutely hellbent on an alliance with the Jamesons, she would choose the college-aged Caspian.

After all, he was still a son of the Jameson family.

Once she explained her absurd proposition, Lyra nervously added, “This won’t just help me, Caspian. It helps your brother, too. Will you please do this for us?”

A long silence stretched over the line. “Lyra… how did you get this phone number?”

Lyra froze!

In her past life, as Caspian’s sister-in-law, Victoria frequently asked her to pick him up from campus or drop off his laundry, so she had memorized his number. But in this timeline, Caspian had attended high school in another province and had just changed his number upon returning to Seaborne City for university. They hadn’t even exchanged contacts yet.

“I… I asked around,” she lied smoothly, carefully avoiding any names.

“So, will you help me?”

“If it helps you and my brother, of course I’m willing,” Caspian replied softly.

Lyra let out a massive sigh of relief. Caspian had always been reasonable.

A million times more decent than Rowan.

“Does my brother know about this?”

Lyra scoffed lightly. “He wouldn’t care. He’d love nothing more than to dump me as a burden.”

Caspian was quiet for a few seconds, seemingly thinking she was being too hard on herself. “…I’ll follow your lead, Lyra.”

“Are you at the estate today?”

“Yes, I’m home.”

Lyra hung up the phone, a triumphant smile spreading across her face. She couldn’t believe Caspian had actually agreed to her chaotic plan.

The Jamesons’ second son was truly gentle and kindhearted.

Feeling entirely relieved, she practically bounced downstairs. Arthur was still stationed on the sofa. She walked right up to him. “Dad, aren’t we going to the Jamesons’? Let’s go.”

Surprised by her sudden willingness, Arthur’s tone immediately softened. “Finally coming to your senses? That’s my girl. It’s completely normal for young couples to fight and make up. Don’t ruin your entire future over a petty grudge. Rowan might have a temper, but he’s exceptional. Don’t push the man you love into another woman’s arms just to prove a point. You’ll only end up regretting it.”

Arthur pulled out his phone and made a quick call to the Jameson estate.

Rowan had clearly just stepped out of a corporate board meeting. He wore a sharp, immaculate suit, his demeanor freezing and unapproachable. His dark, predatory gaze held a terrifyingly cold edge. He looked like a man you did not want to cross.

Arthur and Delilah were already used to this.

As long as their daughter loved him, they didn’t care how intimidating or ruthless he was.

“Rowan, go sit next to Lyra,” Victoria instructed.

Rowan pulled out a chair and sat down, not sparing Lyra a single glance.

Since Charles and Victoria had incredibly high tolerance for his attitude, just getting him to sit at the table was considered a victory.

Lyra racked her brain, trying to remember what had happened on this day in her past life.

Then she realized, she hadn’t returned the ring in her previous life, which meant this forced reconciliation lunch had never happened.

“Lyra, what would you like to drink?” Caspian’s gentle voice pulled her from her thoughts.

Noticing he was holding a pitcher of freshly squeezed juice, she smiled. “Orange juice is perfect, thank you.”

Caspian walked over and poured her a glass.

The two exchanged a quick, knowing look, fully understanding their secret pact.
