She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 167

The party was still going strong. Lyra had been ready to leave, but Caleb had already taken off with his wife in one of the cars. With only one car left, she had no choice but to wait for her parents to finish mingling so they could head back together.

As she strolled over to Delilah, she happened to overhear Eleanor Grayson chatting with a few other socialites, a hint of wistfulness in her tone. "I never imagined that Waylon actually had someone in his heart all this time."

Lyra paused, a flicker of surprise crossing her eyes.

Not far away, Waylon Grayson was surrounded by several older relatives, fending off their good-natured teasing and endless pressure to settle down.

He kept a faint, polite smile on his lips. He was neither overly enthusiastic nor dismissive, every movement radiating flawless breeding and charm.

While Waylon was getting interrogated about his love life, no one dared to pull that with Rowan. Whenever they tried, he simply stonewalled them. Besides, it was an open secret that he had a girlfriend, even if Alistair hadn't officially given his blessing yet.

Lyra stepped a bit closer, catching the hushed reassurances of the other women.

"It's for the best that it didn't work out."

"He'll find someone much better eventually."

Driven by sudden curiosity, Lyra couldn't help but chime in. "What didn't work out?"

Eleanor turned, smiling when she saw who it was. "A year ago, we accidentally discovered that Waylon actually tried to pursue a girl, but she completely brushed him off. It was the first time he's ever faced such a brutal rejection."

Lyra blinked, asking without thinking, "Who was it?"

Eleanor chuckled. "That's the mystery. He kept it totally under wraps."

"He refuses to bring up the past. No matter who asks, he won't say a word. Even his own parents have no clue who she is."

"If we knew who she was, it would be so much easier. We could just find someone similar so he could settle down. As long as she comes from a clean, respectable family, we'd be thrilled."

Delilah nodded in agreement. "Absolutely."

Leaving the party, Lyra felt completely drained on the ride home. The driver navigated the dark streets while Arthur rested his eyes in the passenger seat, and Delilah gazed out at the city lights.

Seizing the quiet moment, Lyra pulled out her phone and texted Madeline: "Do you know who Waylon used to have a crush on?"

Madeline replied instantly: "No clue."

Madeline was just as baffled. "Wait, he liked someone? He honestly seems even more emotionally unavailable than Rowan."

Lyra was completely speechless.

Of course, she should have known Madeline wouldn't have the answers.

Then maybe she should hurry up and ask Leo or Lucas?

Perhaps sensing the frustrated crease between her brows, Arthur caught her reflection in the rearview mirror and turned around. "Is everything alright, Lyra?"
