She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 168

Delilah also turned to check on her. Lyra quickly smoothed her expression and flashed a reassuring smile. "I'm fine, Dad."

"I'm heading to California tomorrow."

"There's this young guy who just passed his dissertation defense and is about to graduate. I'm going to congratulate him. There's a very good chance he'll be joining our company soon."

She had already secured three of the four elite core programmers from Jameson Tech. Quentin and York were already fully integrated into Fairchild Holdings. The third, a guy named Zane Sutton, was currently finishing his PhD in California. She had intentionally staged a run-in with him on campus back then to establish a connection. They had been keeping in touch via email ever since, and he had promised to return and sign with Fairchild Holdings the second he graduated.

She didn't know the exact details of his family background, but judging by his polished wardrobe and refined way of speaking, he clearly came from serious money.

Hearing his daughter's plan, Arthur's eyes lit up with approval.

"You've been working so hard on recruitment lately, and I see it all. You've got a sharp eye, meticulous planning, and you know how to lock down talent before anyone else. That's the mindset of a true leader. You really are my daughter..."

Sitting beside her, Delilah listened quietly to their exchange, a warm smile blooming on her face. She reached over to squeeze Lyra's hand. "Just make sure you stay safe on the trip..."

"I will."

Putting all thoughts of Waylon out of her mind, Lyra headed straight for the airport the next day.

However, she hadn't anticipated that her trip to California would drag on for so long.

Zane stayed by her side the entire time, spending a full week showing her around the area. Unfortunately, his advisor refused to let him go just yet, forcefully retaining him as a teaching assistant. His plans to graduate and return home had to be put on hold.

Zane sounded a bit frustrated, clearly worried about disappointing his "online friend." "Just give me a little more time. The second I wrap up this mess over here, I'm booking the first flight back."

After spending a week with him, Lyra knew Zane was a man of his word. If he made a promise, he would deliver.

It was just six months as a TA...

There was even a subtle undercurrent of sheer awe.

The management had it all mapped out. They knew that when they took Jasmine out to lunch after the tour, she would dictate the menu. They had meticulously memorized her favorite dishes and dietary restrictions, determined not to make a single misstep.

Every single decision would revolve around Jasmine.

But to their surprise, the second Jasmine stepped out of the facility and pulled off her hard hat, she coolly turned down their lunch invitation.

"Rowan is coming over to my place today to have lunch with my parents. I'll have to take a raincheck on dining with all of you."

It clicked instantly for the executives—Mr. Jameson was officially meeting the parents! This was a massive step. A wedding was practically on the horizon!

In that moment, the way they looked at Jasmine became even more painstakingly deferential and polite.
