She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 180

"Oh, I totally forgot the rest of the food..." Kayla suddenly remembered the soup. She stood up and headed for the kitchen to grab the final dish.

Daniel, a few drinks deep and clearly eager to boost his sister's status in her new family, flashed a boastful grin. "You know, Kayla had a pretty long line of suitors back in the day. A lot of top-tier guys, too."

Delilah smiled politely, playing along. "Of course. She's a wonderful girl. It's only natural people are drawn to her."

Taking that as an invitation, Daniel leaned in, laying it on thick. "The most impressive one was from a major Seaborne City family. A guy named Waylon Grayson. He was completely obsessed with her."

The moment the words left his mouth, a dead silence dropped over the dining room.

Almost purely on instinct, Lyra shot a look at Caleb.

Caleb caught her eye. The siblings exchanged a tense, knowing look before simultaneously dropping their gazes to their plates.

No one dared to speak.

"Hey, Caleb, you're not mad I brought that up, right?" Daniel rambled on, oblivious to the icy tension. "I mean, back then, Fairchild Holdings wasn't doing quite as well, definitely not on Grayson Group's level. Honestly, our parents were pulling for Waylon, but Kayla was head over heels for you."

Caleb's mouth twitched into a tight smile. He just murmured a soft "Oh" and took a bite of his food, not pressing the issue. He acted as though he had just heard a piece of utterly trivial gossip.

Moments later, Kayla returned with the serving bowl, completely oblivious. Delilah gave her a long, unreadable look before speaking. "Sit down, dear. Your brother is here; you should just relax and entertain him. The staff can handle the serving."

Kayla smiled and took her seat next to Caleb. It didn't take her long to sense the stifling energy in the room. Caleb was still perfectly polite, but he had grown exceptionally quiet.

"I am a married woman! I joined the Fairchild family!" Kayla's chest heaved with rage, her eyes flashing with a mix of panic, anger, and utter mortification. "Why on earth would you bring up my old suitors in front of my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, and my own husband?! Are you actively trying to ruin my life out of pure boredom?"

The sheer humiliation and frustration broke her composure. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she snapped, "I didn't even know Waylon! It was always so bizarre that a guy like him came out of nowhere to chase me..."

Seeing his sister on the verge of crying, Daniel finally panicked. He backpedaled frantically. "Come on, it was just harmless dinner conversation! You're overreacting..."

"Just leave," Kayla spat out. "And don't you ever bring up that garbage in my husband's house again."

Realizing he had seriously crossed a line, Daniel quickly scrambled into his car and sped off without another word.
