She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Lyra Fairchild slept restlessly.

“No, please…”

She dreamt of tumbling down a steep flight of stairs, letting out a sharp gasp as she jolted awake from the nightmare.

The room around her was dead silent.

The alarm clock on her nightstand read just past four in the morning, and Lyra decided she was done trying to sleep.

Since Rowan Jameson was already plotting on behalf of the Ford family, even assigning his personal secretary to shadow Jonathan Ford, time was of the essence.

She couldn’t afford to delay her own plans any longer.

Despite her lack of sleep, Lyra got up early and headed to the office.

She grabbed a quick breakfast of eggs and toast in her car.

Marching straight into the company elevator, she pressed the button for the Human Resources department.

Today, she didn’t wait to commute with Caleb.

When Caleb woke up and heard from Martha that his sister had already left for work, he stood there stunned, unable to believe his ears.

Since when did she become so career-driven?

After breakfast, Caleb received a barrage of calls from the office while driving.

Every single one was a complaint against Miss Fairchild.

He listened in sheer confusion, but his instinct was to defend her. “My sister wouldn’t act so recklessly, so don’t speak ill of her. We’ll discuss this when I get to the office.”

Caleb hung up, muttering under his breath about what on earth was going on, and sped all the way to Fairchild Holdings.

He didn’t expect the company to be in a state of absolute chaos.

Miss Fairchild had boldly drafted a list of twenty names, threatening to fire them all and demanding they pack their bags and get the hell out.

The employees were gossiping frantically.

“She changes her tune faster than a weather vane. Last time she was so polite… and now she’s politely telling us to get out.”

“It’s almost the holidays. Firing people now? She’s probably just trying to get out of paying end-of-year bonuses.”

“Chairman Fairchild is such a reasonable man. How did he raise such an unreasonable daughter?”

The employees chattered away, completely unaware that Caleb had arrived.

“Having a good chat?” Caleb walked past them, his hands in his pockets and his expression blank, instantly silencing the office floor.

Without proof, it was impossible to explain.

“Have we not been paying enough attention to you lately? Is that why you’re acting out?” Caleb looked at her. Ever since she claimed to like Caspian Jameson, he felt like she was a completely different person.

“I honestly can’t comprehend the point of all this.”

Lyra held her ground. “If they’re not loyal, we shouldn’t keep them.”

“Not loyal? Where is the proof? You can’t just make baseless accusations,” Caleb scoffed.

Lyra was struck speechless. She only knew these things because she had lived through them once already.

She had no choice but to plead. “Caleb, please, you have to trust me…”

Caleb remained unmoved. “I will stand by your side unconditionally on anything else, but when it comes to the company… Dad and I can’t let you act on a whim.”

Arthur Fairchild had gone to the factory today, but upon hearing the news, he rushed back.

When Arthur arrived at the office, he didn’t scold Lyra.

He simply took the list from Caleb’s hands.

Arthur let out a chuckle.

This wasn’t just a list of low-level clerks; it involved a significant chunk of the company’s upper management.
