She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 220

"Why isn't Lucas here?" The rest of The Ford Family was thrilled to have Rowan and Waylon there, but Elara Townsend kept craning her neck, looking around.

"Lucas is gone," Waylon said bluntly. "He's not in Seaborne City anymore. Silas exiled him to a rural subsidiary."

Jasmine gasped. "What happened? What did he do?"

"Rumor has it he severely pissed off Silas and got shipped off to a shell branch. Silas ordered Leo Chavez back from Monaco to take over the company... No one knows the exact details, just that all the staff working that day got fired on the spot."

Rowan was well aware of the drama.

Had he wanted to, he could easily unearth the root cause. But getting involved in another family's dirty laundry had never been his style.

Jasmine murmured, "I can't imagine what Lucas could have done to infuriate Silas like that. With Leo coming back... his parents must be losing their minds, right?"

"Probably."

Rowan was pushing Jasmine's wheelchair toward the exit when his phone buzzed. He signaled a bodyguard to take over and stepped aside to answer the call.

Elara looked thoroughly miserable.

Once outside, Jasmine also caught sight of a massive ad for Josie Somerset. Lately, the girl's face was inescapable.

The breakout starlet was stunning and undeniably riding the peak of her popularity.

But with her engagement just around the corner, Jasmine barely considered the actress a blip on her radar.

...

A few days later, Jasmine was walking perfectly fine.

Rowan carved out some time from his brutal schedule to personally escort her to Elysian Couture to select an engagement gown.

The boutique's stylist bowed in greeting, her demeanor flawlessly deferential as she eagerly brought out rack after rack of the latest season's releases.

While Jasmine was being fawned over, Rowan took a seat on the plush sofa, deeply engrossed in his tablet.

"Ms. Ford, this is our latest flagship piece. The rose tone is delicate without being overpowering. It complements the skin beautifully and carries the perfect romantic vibe for an engagement. It's practically ethereal," the stylist coaxed, delicately holding up a dusky pink, custom-made gown wrapped in layers of airy chiffon. "With your elegant aura, this will look absolutely breathtaking on you. Shall I help you try it on?"

Jasmine lowered her eyes, glancing at the soft, innocent pink fabric.

Since it was such an incredibly casual conversation.

Jasmine didn't think much of it.

She simply assumed Rowan was trying to gauge her preferences for a new piece of jewelry. He had already dropped millions of dollars at an auction recently; he was probably trying to figure out what to gift her next, which is why he asked if she liked pink.

Ultimately, Jasmine settled on a champagne gown. With the stylist bowing at a strict ninety-degree angle behind them, she and Rowan exited the boutique.

"Where are we eating tonight?"

Jasmine was in an incredibly good mood.

"I have a few work emergencies to handle," Rowan said, checking his watch with a faint smile. "Let's call it a day for now."

Jasmine was taken aback for a second, but then remembered how insanely busy he had been lately. He had spent the entire trip at the boutique working on his tablet, anyway. The disappointment faded.

Rowan had Wesley drive her home.

Meanwhile, he climbed into his security detail's SUV.
