She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 236

"It's been manageable, not too crazy. My mom keeps saying how much she misses you. Whenever you have free time, we should all grab dinner."

They chatted all the way out, looking as close as a real mother and daughter.

Lyra trailed behind them.

Although Jasmine was dying to turn around and see the look on Lyra's face, she managed to hold herself back.

Once outside, Lyra was just about to tell Victoria she wanted to head back when the two women walked right into another boutique.

Instead of following them immediately, Lyra pulled out her phone and called Caleb. "In ten minutes... no, five minutes, call me. Tell me there's an emergency at the office and I need to rush back."

"What's going on? Did Mom set you up on a blind date? I didn't hear anything about that..." Caleb thought this classic escape tactic was strictly reserved for bad dates.

Lyra sighed. "Caleb... just do it, please."

She had really miscalculated today.

By trying not to be rude, she had trapped herself in this miserable situation.

Just as she was on the phone, she looked up and saw Victoria waving her over. Lyra quickly ended the call and walked inside.

Victoria held out an elegant shopping bag toward her, her tone gentle but firm. "I saw this and thought it would suit you perfectly. I picked out a silk scarf—very understated, easy to style for everyday wear. Have a look, Lyra. Do you like it?"

Lyra didn't even glance at it. "How much was it? I'll transfer the money to you."

"There's no need for that. You're treating me like a stranger, Lyra..."

Right then, several mall managers recognized Victoria. They hurried over, their attitudes incredibly respectful and accommodating, eagerly inviting the ladies to the VIP lounge for tea and pastries. Victoria nodded, pulling Lyra along into an elegant afternoon tea salon.

"I asked both of you out today because I want you to spend more time together and chat. We're all going to be family. If you get along, it saves me a lot of worry."

Victoria spoke smoothly, "Rowan told me you two knew each other from way back. That's wonderful. Whatever unpleasantness my son caused between you in the past, let's turn the page. From now on, we're family."
