She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 239

At the same time.

Lyra was slowly walking into a private boutique restaurant that was closed to the public for the day.

The courtyard was lined with solemn pine and cypress trees, and the serving staff moved with hushed footsteps.

Lyra made her way in and reached the private room. The light from a crystal chandelier reflected softly off the solid mahogany round table, and the faint scent of green tea hung in the air. There was no noise, only a deeply understated, heavy sense of importance.

The man sitting at the head of the table wore a dark tunic suit. His face was composed and authoritative, with slight graying at his temples. He carried the natural, commanding presence of someone who had held high office for years—it was none other than Secretary Thorne.

"I apologize for being late," Lyra smiled. She knew she was actually five minutes early, but they had arrived even earlier.

"Not at all, you're right on time. We just got here early."

Secretary Thorne stood up with a warm smile.

Lyra quickly stepped forward to shake his hand. First the composed Secretary Thorne, then a few senior officials beside him, and finally, the youngest-looking man at the table. He appeared to be a few years older than Caleb, radiating a quiet, steady intensity. He wasn't overtly sharp, but he carried an undeniable weight.

She knew very well that anyone sitting at this table could change the landscape of an entire region with a flick of their wrist. This man was obviously no exception.

"Lyra, are you feeling any lingering effects from the accident?"

Lyra smiled. "I'm perfectly healthy."

"Thanks to you, Miss Fairchild, we are perfectly healthy too. Please, take a seat..."

Lyra finally sat down.

Secretary Thorne personally poured her half a cup of tea. His tone was serious, stripped of any polite fluff. "Lyra, there are no outsiders at this casual lunch. When I ran into that dangerous situation during my inspection in Seaborne City, the consequences would have been unimaginable if you hadn't stepped in so decisively. I've been wanting to thank you in person, and I finally found the time today."

These powerful men, who had weathered countless storms, spoke to her with genuine respect.

The entire table looked at Lyra with warm, sincere gratitude, completely devoid of their usual scrutinizing gazes.

"You're giving me too much credit, Secretary Thorne. I was just at the right place at the right time, doing what needed to be done," Lyra replied calmly.

Throughout the meal, they didn't talk business or leverage. They simply discussed local culture, social issues, and current events. Lyra's responses were perfectly measured and incredibly insightful, earning frequent nods of approval from the heavyweights.

One of the scientists present also smiled at her with deep appreciation. "My old bones only survived thanks to you, Miss Fairchild. If you ever need anything, just say the word."

Laughter broke out around the table, and Lyra felt a surge of quiet triumph.
