She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 294

Back in her bedroom, Lyra spent a little more time working on her laptop.

Not long after, a text message popped up on her screen.

[You don't like me anymore. You like Waylon now?]

Lyra furrowed her brow in disgust.

What on earth was he talking about?

She didn't bother replying. Instead, the message reminded her that she hadn't brushed her teeth yet... and she could still taste him on her lips.

Her face turned a sickly shade of green. She slammed her phone onto the desk and sprinted into the bathroom.

After thoroughly scrubbing her teeth and exhaling into her cupped hands to check her breath, she returned to her desk, only to have her phone start ringing. It was Madeline Vance. She picked it up.

"I've decided to be the bigger person and forgive you. Let's go out tomorrow."

"I'm busy," Lyra replied flatly. After a brief pause, she added, "As long as you're with that guy, I will be busy forever."

"You—oh my god, I get it now! You're in love with me!" Madeline shrieked. "You want to be with me forever! You sick, twisted—"

Lyra hung up before she could finish the unhinged rant.

As she set her phone down, she noticed a bowl of fresh white strawberries sitting on the edge of her desk. Martha or Kayla must have brought them up, worried she might get hungry working late. Not thinking much of it, she popped one into her mouth.

By the time she finished the snack, Alan and her overseas investment team had already clocked in for their morning shift.

She washed her hands and dove back into her work.

...

For the next few days, Caleb had people scouring the area around the factory for answers. The industrial park had terrible camera coverage, and the surrounding areas were just scattered rural villages, farmland, and a lake. The trail went completely cold. Ultimately, they found nothing.

Before they knew it, a whole month had passed, and the incident turned into an unsolved mystery.

Terrified that Caleb might be targeted again, Lyra suggested, "We should hire a couple of bodyguards."
