She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 297

...

Caleb rarely posted on social media, but he shared the photo of Lyra eating her cake.

Rowan saw it.

In a daze, he remembered that exactly three years ago, on this very day, she had relentlessly begged him to celebrate her birthday with her.

But he never showed up, and surprisingly, she never threw a tantrum about it later.

After that, she stopped bothering him.

It was entirely possible that her sudden coldness toward him had stemmed directly from that missed birthday.

The moment the realization hit, Rowan didn't hesitate. He grabbed his car keys and drove straight to the Fairchild estate.

Lyra's phone was unreachable the entire drive. Once he arrived outside the villa, he had no choice but to call Caleb.

Caleb was incredibly surprised to receive a call from Rowan.

He was even more baffled when Rowan demanded to speak to his sister.

Caleb walked into Lyra's room, waking her up just as she had drifted off. "It's Rowan on the phone."

Groggy and confused, she took the phone. The second she heard Rowan's voice, her sleepiness vanished. Looking up at Caleb's deeply weird expression, a sense of dread pooled in her stomach.

Glancing at the screen, it finally clicked—Rowan had actually called Caleb just to get to her.

"I have to step out for a minute," Lyra said, grabbing a random coat and throwing it on.

Caleb took his phone back, looking at her like she had grown a second head. "What does he want with you?"

"I have no idea."

Zipping up her short jacket, Lyra rushed out the door. She assumed they would just exchange a few words in the driveway. Instead, the second she got close, Rowan grabbed her, shoved her into the passenger seat, and sped away from the estate.

When they pulled up outside an exclusive, high-end restaurant, Lyra looked down at her fuzzy slippers and the thin white nightgown peeking out from under her jacket.
