She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 301

Lyra Fairchild was stunned.

In her past life, Madeline Vance had never possessed such effortless freedom. Before Lyra's death, Madeline's fortune had already been heavily drained by the deceitful Peyton Marshall.

Observing Lyra's wide, glistening eyes and luminous complexion behind her surgical mask, Sabrina Vance chuckled and abruptly yanked the mask off her face.

She gasped, "Who did this to you? Was it Rowan Jameson?"

Lyra frowned, quickly pulling the mask back up. "You wish it was him."

"You got me there! Back in junior high, your lips always looked so plump and perfect. Whenever I saw you hovering around him, I wished he would just grab you and kiss you senseless... You two were such a stunning couple, it killed me."

"Shouldn't you be more concerned about your cousin?" Lyra gave her a look that suggested she was dealing with a lunatic.

"I do care about Maddie, but I care about you more." Sabrina grabbed Lyra's soft hand and gave it an affectionate squeeze.

Lyra pulled her hand free. "Thank you. I'm leaving now."

"Wait, let me show you something," Sabrina called out, stopping her in her tracks. "It's extremely important. You'll regret it if you don't look."

Sabrina walked over to a cabinet, retrieved a digital camera, and powered it on. The screen displayed a single, distinct photograph.

It was a picture of a youthful, innocent Lyra from their junior high days, leaning against a sunlit window. A teenage Rowan stood right beside her. A faint smile played on his lips, and his gaze was entirely fixed on her—pure, intensely focused, and remarkably tender.

"You're mistaken, Sabrina. He never looked at me like that." Lyra handed the camera back. "It must just be the angle and the lighting creating an illusion."

"I don't need a camera to know what my own eyes saw. I was walking downstairs right at that moment, and the absolute devotion in his eyes was unmistakable. It's just a tragic shame that your parents were so eager for success and pushed too hard. A man like Rowan, born with that kind of pride and a relentless need for control, despises being manipulated by others. And because of that, he completely shut you out."

Sabrina had to be wrong.

And even if she wasn't, it was far too late.
