"Caspian, why did you agree to get married?"
Caspian knew Lyra had come for this exact reason, looking incredibly anxious.
"Because you treat me so well," Caspian said, in a surprisingly good mood.
"Was there someone else who treated you well?" Lyra asked.
Caspian's smile completely froze.
"Caspian, why?"
He looked at her, his expression turning blank. "Why what?"
"You were behind Jasmine Ford's car accident. Why did you hurt her?"
Caspian knew this day would come eventually. He coldly poured himself a glass of water.
"When I was in middle school, my mother hired a tutor for me. Eliza Reed. She was seven years older than me."
"She came from an ordinary background and worked hard to pay for her education. She was beautiful, highly educated, and ambitious. She had this incredible, vibrant energy about her."
"I originally thought she liked me. I only found out later that she had fallen for my brother."
"When she confessed her feelings to him, he said the most vicious things to her. She was so devastated she ran out into the street... and was hit by a car. She didn't make it. I kept thinking later, if he had just rejected her gently, wouldn't she still be alive?"
He gripped his glass tightly, his knuckles turning white. "She had such a bright future ahead of her. Her parents were waiting for her to graduate so she could support them. It was all because of Rowan..."
"I know how powerful he is. I couldn't touch him. In this world, there's almost nothing he can't accomplish if he sets his mind to it."
Lyra looked at him, her gaze turning icy. "So you targeted the women he liked?"
Caspian lowered his eyes and let out a bitter laugh. "Any woman my brother loves... I want her dead."
Lyra stared at him in silence.
"Now you know."
"She was the first woman I ever loved in this life..."
