When the news of Lucas's impending engagement broke, Elara Townsend couldn't hold back her tears in front of Jasmine. Her voice was full of grievance and resentment. "I'm going to be related to the Jameson Group through you. What right does some country secretary have?"
She choked on her words, her tone indignant.
"Why would Lucas want a woman with no background and mediocre looks?"
Before Jasmine could respond, footsteps echoed outside. Tabitha pushed the door open, her brows pulling together as she saw Elara sobbing. She asked what was wrong.
Jasmine remained perfectly calm as she explained, "Lucas met a girl in the countryside a while ago and brought her straight home. Now, word is they're getting engaged. Elara just found out and has been heartbroken over it..."
Tabitha looked surprised. "Does he really like her that much?"
A subtle flash of meaning crossed Jasmine's eyes as she casually noted, "I saw her at the gathering when he first brought her around. Her features and aura... she looks a little bit like Lyra."
Elara abruptly stopped crying, her eyes widening as she hurriedly asked,
"Jasmine, does... does Rowan know?"
Jasmine curled her lips into a faint smile. "He didn't notice. Rowan never pays attention to other women. He won't look at a woman for more than two seconds. I doubt he even got a good look at Lucas's girlfriend's face..."
Jasmine had observed this closely.
Rowan had always poured his heart and soul into his empire. Work always came first, and he never indulged in romance. She was the sole exception.
Elara instantly cast her a look of pure envy.
Tabitha smiled in gratification.
Right then, Jasmine's phone rang. She answered it smoothly, listened for a moment, and her expression softened.
Hanging up, she said, "Rowan says he has something to tell me when he gets back from his business trip."
